This could be a whole new thread, "helping others" Although admirable, it is a very risky proposition. The SDA addresses use of deadly force as such:

"A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force, if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony."

The problem with this is that it is difficult to know for certain who the good guy and the bad guys are. The other problem it that it place the determination of what is a forcible felony in the hands of someone likely unqualified to make that call (non-lawyer)

I took some tactical training awhile back. One of the secenerios, was walking down a sidewalk, going around the corner and seeing a guy on his knees pleading for his life. The person above him had a pistol, and was obviously agitated, and screaming at the guy on his knees. DO YOU WANT TO DIE! DO YOU WANT TO DIE!

Now, what do you do as a good samaritan? Draw your weapon, and shoot the guy holding the gun?

As this was an action type of drill, about half pulled their blue gun and would have shot the guy holding the gun.

What we didn't know, there was a dead guy on the other side of a bush that the guy on his knees had just stabbed in a robbery attempt, and his buddy finally got to draw his CCW and hold the robber.
Not all is as it seems in some situations.

I'd be interested to hear in what manner folks like to carry. I know I'm a fan of AIWB, but lately I've grown fond of my Maxpedition versapack. And yes, it is a purse.

I hate to say it but my Maxpedition versapack (man purse) is the way I carry at work and when I'm on my motorcycle. The rest of the time I'm using a comp tec IWB holster with a spare mag in the pocket. It would be very rare to catch me without a weapon.

That is a good one.
Most say and teach dont pull your gun unless you are going to use it. I understand the lesson. However just because you pulled it do you now have to shoot it?
I dont think so. In this case pulling the gun but not firing it until some eval and verification of what is going on maybe? you couldnt walk up and ask hey what are you guy's doing with out protecting your self first.
I'm interested in what the instructor said.
Please inlighten us.

Every day unless I know I'd be going to a place where a carry is prohibited. In that case, I leave one in the car in a leather case that looks like a Bible cover. With a spare mag. Alleluia.

I am that 1-2 times a week guy. I keep weapon in the truck, went shooting at lunch time 2-4 times a week at lunch time in October and first part of November couldn't tell it at the match. I work in the medical field and wear scrubs I carry Keltec P3AT IWB with scrubs when I wear jeans I go with the Kahr cw9. These choices are funny because I am a glock fan have 26 19 17 & until recently had 36. I go to gym in morning no real place for a gun (I loose hoodies there), gun not allowed at work and my kids are in youth sports so I don't like to carry at basketball gym in case that i give that high five and shirt hangs on top of gun. Keep all guns with chamber loaded except 17 it is empty with no clip that is because I dry fire it and don't want an oops. Always carry out of town.

Ruger LCP .380 AIWB in the summer & Kimber 1911 .45 ACP with spare 10rnd mag at 6 o'clock in the winter. Where permitted of course.

Its basically a no win type of situation. The guy holding the gun on the person that stabbed his buddy, is now confronted by somebody that may, or may not be a buddy of the stabber.
Or, a good samaritan. Mexican stand-off.

Another drill was standing in line at a fast food, or grocery store line. Guy in front of you pulls a gun and demands the register money. You pull your gun, and you get shot in the back by the guys buddy standing watch at the condiment counter. Lots of variables in each situation. There is no concrete answer.

Only time I cant carry on me is in the building at work. Technically they say no firearms on the premises, so I NEVER HAVE A GUN IN MY CAR....EVER...but hypothetically if I were to work at a place that didnt allow firearms Id carry a knife, kubaton, knuckles of some kind...and have at least one gun in the car with a spare reload handy and at least 100 rounds in the trunk...hypothetically speaking...

Do you work in a place that is statutorily off-limits? If so, youshould be allowed to keep your gun in your car. I understand some people are hesitant to keep a gun unattended in their car. if you do, try to find a way to lock it.

One cheap idea is to get a cable gun lock (usually free with a new gun) and lock it to the seat bracket under your car seat. Someone might find it but they aren't going to take it (very easily)

Correct me if I err (not a lawyer... never played on on TV either)...

OK law allows you to keep a gun in parking lots generally speaking. Federal locations and prisons are the most likely locations that right would be dis allowed.

I know that you are subject to parking lot searches at VA hospitals and military posts...

The biggest problem is that the company I work for is fairly large, and whether Im legally allowed or not if I did get fired it would be difficult to get a different job in the field...but Id sue them and never have to work again...lol...just kidding....but seriously, no aluminum sign is going to dictate my level of safety. The laws were made for man, not man for the laws. My approach may seem biased, but we'll see how much their heart bleeds the day something does happen and they walk away because I had the foresight to ignore a regulation and ensure my safety and the safety of those around me.

Everyday after being about a block from the shooting in Bricktown Saturday. Had just left the movie theater and heard the shots but didn't see anything.
