Got my first handgun in 1981 - a 70 Series Colt Government Model. I've been carrying it for 39 years now. It' a little embarrassing when I see all the beautiful works of art posted here, because, having been carried for 39 years - it looks it. The blue finish is worn from being in and out of the holster so many times, and it has battled rust in summer heat. (There were no stainless Colts in 1981) As of last summer it has earned summers off. I picked up a 45 Shield on a sale + the S&W rebate a couple years ago and had shot it enough to trust it last summer. I got the one with the safety and with a Hyve Extension it holds the same 8+1 - and it doesn't rust.

For all that shooting used to be FUN, (A point that is never mentioned in the "DISCUSSION" to nullify the Second Amendment being forced by a government, or at least a political party, that DEFINITELY sees an armed citizenry AS A THREAT) there is now a cold war raging that is very much a current reality, living in communist controlled territory, where the Second Amendment no longer has bearing.

My views on firearm rights come from having been under a table during a public shooting in a restaurant when I was a kid, I learned that waiting 5 minutes for a police response, feels like 5 hours, AND IS NOT AN OPTION!
So I have a BIG problem with any citizen disarmament laws. . . . .
. . . which means I have a lot of BIG problems. (HA) Cause these laws are NEVER ENDING!
Whether real, or perceived through paranoia, I feel much care must be used when posting anything firearms on the internet. But I DO love seeing all the BEAUTIFUL firearms posted on this site.
And I do look forward to a day when I live in a more free America where I would feel comfortable posting firearms on a site.
JC

I agree about the "character"
And I love this: (And very much agree)

Welcome, from Pennsylvania. At least for the time being it is a State where we can buy and own what we like. Never trust a politician when running for office. They seem to forget what they said. e.g. Joe Biden last night.

39 years of carrying the same pistol is a badge of honor, not a point of embarrassment. Good on ya brother!
Parausa: I have a question. First I am assuming you carry a Para, if that's the case I saw a bunch of Para frames for sale. They all had a very deep cut out in the area where the safety is, doi you know what that is for ? Thanks

Welcome from S California ('Kalicommieforni')
Never been under a table, but was one of the last drafted in US Army, Military Police, Germany 73-74.
Amazing that in a free America they fear armed citizens!
They won't admit they are thieves, liars, extortionists and communists/socialist!
And they hate Pres. Donald Trump, because they did not 'approve' of his being elected - not as their choice.
1 if by land, 2 if by sea, or just turn on the lights so folks can see what has happened !!!
Again, Welcome to folks like you still can think.

Thanks Para - I do feel that way - after carrying that 45 shield last summer I wondered if I could go back to the bigger heavier gun - and I couldn't think of a logical reason to do so with the same capacity being in the shield - but the love and feel of the Colt won out and felt good to get back to.

Thanks OA - I tried taking pics in artificial light - and it was nothing but reflections and the orange case on my phone showed and made every shiny wear mark look like rust - so I did natural light - they still didn't turn out too good but they are the best I could do with my old phone.

Thanks Buck - I have a friend who just moved to CommieFornia - out of the frying pan and into the fire I tell him. And he was literally SURROUNDED by fire, was it last year?
And YEA - WE GOT SOME PROBLEMS but I hope whatever TRUMP can't get fixed the new improved TRUMP SUPREME COURT WILL GET FIXED. Right now our problems are at the communist state level. I know you are well aware, being in CommieFornia.

Your photos reminded me of the .45 I carried in Germany - U S Army Military Police, 1973 & 74....
Except mine had a lanyard, so we wouldn't lose them
And our U S Army holsters also had a snap flap to keep it in. So I never lost mine!

Only chambered a round twice, 1 x for a racial incident in town and 1 x for joint German Polizei stake-out behind a bar. Someone reported to have seen a terrorist member of the left-wing Baader–Meinhof Gang . German Police went in the front with officers, German Shepherds, machine guns out and pistols holstered - while the MPs covered the back exit/2nd entrance, with our 1911s!
The racial incidents seemed 'scarier' at the time, with maybe 30 people total. Black vs. White, with mostly white MPs.
However, looking back, the terrorist gang had broken into the German Polizei armory and stolen weapons! Much more dangerous in reality! Yikes!

But, safely home and no Viet nam. As one of the very last Vietnam draftees in 1972, I missed it by literally 1 week!
With sigh of relief...

Excellent stories Buck. There was no draft when I turned 18, but I did have my card. In early 75 when the NVA was getting close to Saigon rumor had it they wouldn't let it fall and they'd reinstitute the draft, so we figured we could go - of course it didn't happen.
The difference between your 45 and mine is that yours COULD OF been a WWII vet - mine only LOOKS like one. HA
I've grown more attached to it over the years as all the sharp edges have softened over time, and improvements have been made. It runs better than ever.

So glad you made it safely to find 1911 Fanatics. (Try 1911 Addicts some day)
In 2016, I met a Vietnamese man my age, who worked for me at The County of Orange, CA, storing and retrieving Public Works documents / drawings. He was the "real deal" boat people and was there when Saigon fell. He had been a math teacher. Had an uncle who wrote a book on the history and rise of communism and Mao Tse Tung and everything that entailed, politically, socially, and economically.
None of it good Bernie !

One of the nicest, most thankful, smart and patriotic Americans I have ever met. Still, the crack report of a gun haunts him, so he does not want to go to the range with me. What a life to have lived and a story to tell. I cannot imagine. Makes for one fine American citizen!!!
We became quite good friends in our last 2 years before retiring and still get together for lunches, egg rolls and In N Out burgers!
May our 1911's always remind us of the best and worst, and make us better men, women and loving, concerned American citizens. God bless America!
