I finally got my SA 1911 9mm home; very pleased. I don't think I can shoot with black sights and don't understand the advantage of adj rear sight. I am thinking to change the front sight to this one: https://dawsonprecision.com/dawson-precision-springfield-1911-fiber-optic-front-sights/
or replace both with fixed sights set. Any recommendations? Thank you!

That is a beautiful gun! I've never used fiber optic sites to shoot, but have looked at them before. They jump right out! I use a white dot front, and a black wide notch rear sight. It generally works well for me.

Congrats on finally getting your new pistol in hand.
.It looks identical to mine..or it did before I started changing things . ;)
Before changing the front site, I'd suggest borrowing some white or red fingernail polish ( you could use model paint)
and coloring the surface of the front sight that you see when looking thru the rear sight.
I've done this mod on a number of pistols I own, .. and I prefer adj.rear sights on my pistols, so I can tune them for the bullet to hit where I want.
Drifting a rear sight isn't as precise as adjusting one, & you have to change the front site height if using a fixed rear site & you are shooting high or low.
Much easier to use an adjustable sight IMO

That's a good idea, I'll give it a try. I do have a adj rear sight on my Glock 34, but there is white U shape and white front dot. Thank you much.

Wonderful, I'll come back here once I decide what to do with the sights. Thank you.

I use the model paint fingernail polish and even white out on the front site. Works wonderfully!

Front sight changed to Dawson P .180"T /.100"W fiber; kept factory adj rear sight, and got a Wilson Combat 10 round magazine. I'll go to the range this weekend.

Finally took the new toy to the range today. Very smooth, lots of fun though it didn't cycle completely a few times. Not sure if it's because not enough oil. Shots land on upper left unless with adjustment. I need to figure out how to adjust the rear sight, what tool do I need and how, any suggestions?

Have you used a rest , to determine if it's your shooting, or if you need to adjust the sights ?
If you need to adjust them, move the rear sight in the direction you want the bullet to go.
.i.e. if you want your bullets to move the right, move the rear sight in that direction.
Use care in choosing the correct (hollow ground) screwdriver or driver tip, so you don't bugger the screw.
If you don't have the correct screwdriver, buy a set of purpose built screwdrivers (or screwdriver tips)..made for firearms.

I'd suggest shooting your pistol more, as you have some hits where you want them..
maybe try altering your trigger finger position on the trigger, before adjusting the sights.

All very helpful tips, thank you very much, Joe. I shall try with a rest first, I haven't yet.

IF, after more trigger time, you still want to change sights, Harrison Custom makes a drift in fixed rear sight that will fit the bomar cut. Please verify prior to buying.
I've had good success heavily, taping or otherwise protecting slide, using a centering starter punch and drilling a 1/16" small dimple in front sight. Fill with color nail polish of your choice.
Has always worked well and I've done it often. Of course you can always bang in a new one from Novaks for around $30

Hi, I shot with a shooting rest today, 7 yards, Federal 115 grain ammo. I should work on my grip instead of adjusting the rear sight. Thank you, guys!

Re; front sight, if I want a contrasting front sight I get out the white model paint or even whiteout. I have a couple front sights done with paint, more with whiteout. This works on revolver front sights too. I usually just fill in the dot on the semi auto front sight, or make a horizontal stripe with a revolver. Works for me.
