Im thinking of getting a YHM clamp on gas block. The goal is to free float my carbine barrel. Any reason not to go with this? Thanks

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. Obviously this one needs more attention.

I thought of that. Probably my best bet, actually. I was thinking of salvaging the FSB for dad's A2 build. But its not like a new one is unobtainium. Thanks!

The elephant dung thing about a lot of the fsb gas blocks for sale out there is a lot of them don't have the pin holes pre drilled so if you're planning to use it for another build, do it and get the YHM block. If not, chop it.

Chopped it is then. But what about the hand guard retainer? Is the barrel indexed to accept the taper pins, so I can remove the fsb reinstall in same location? This is obviously my first rodeo. But I do have enough sense to mark everything before any dissambly.

Just cut it all off, including the delta ring. It all has to come off to put on a ff. it's easy enough to just cut it off if you take your time.

I'll post up my handiwork in about a week. I find it most important not to have 3 gun parts too close to a 3 gun match. Now I'm convinced I need an ATAS charging handle in order to shoot straighter.

BCM gunfighter medium charging handle for the win!!
BCM Gunfighter ambidextrous medium charging handle for the double win! I have a few of the regulars and one ambi and the ambi is nice just in case you ever have to charge with your right hand.

This
the pins would not come out, & yes I know they are tapered original plan disassemble then chop, final plan get. Cut off wheel & remove xtra parts add troy alpha battle rail & comp then done.

Matt I thought you went back to running an adjustable gas block. LMAO
And that's the only reason you beat me last week :) I had you 3 of 5 stages.

Lesson here, learned the hard way... F*** adjustable gas blocks.

drilling the pin holes aint no big thang
you ever drill a barel for fsb pins? it aint a cup of tea. and certainly, dont expect to necessarily use an old fsb that already been drilled

This says all I need to know! Especially the last tidbit.
