First Time LEO Qualifying Thursday...

So, after almost a year as a reserve deputy, I get to shoot the qualifying stuff Thursday. I am almost positive I can pass it, but the competitive side of me wants to be at least in the top 75%... I am not big on 25 yard handgun shooting, but have been working on it. I doubt they will, but I hope I can qualify with the Glock and my Colt 1911.

Should be fun, they are supplying the ammo, so some free range time should be good. I have only rode the night shift, so I have not met probably half of the deputies. I wish they would do this stuff on the weekends, not Thursday at 6:30 AM. I live about an hour from their range, thank God for coffee.

I would have no problem at 25-30 yards qualifying with my 191l's. But using my former Glock 19 Gen3 I would have to keep it down to 15-20.

If they haven't changed the course since I retired, you will shoot in stages at 3, 5, 7, 15 and 25 yards from different positions.

Get the "long drive and I'm tired before I shoot" thoughts out of your mind now!

Imagine working all night or a double shift because someone called in sick and you have to cover it and just before the long awaited shift change, you get a violent domestic, weapons involved call.

Are you going to pick up the microphone and tell dispatch that you're tired, let the next shift take the call? No, I suspect not. Being tired is no excuse, it's part of the job.

Wishing you well in your qualifying. Hope it was fun for you.
I remember ( many yrs. ago) watching some local PD officers shoot @ my club's range..it was NOT impressive.
I thought to myself.. If I was a LEO, I'd want to shoot a LOT better than they were..
From their targets, I could see I shot much better than they were shooting.
( & I didn't think of myself as a great, or even good shot )

You'll do fine. Now, I NEED my coffee, but I'll admit that I don't shoot well jacked on coffee, so I would need to limit my intake.

I figure if the time comes I need to resort to using my weapon, I'm afraid the adrenaline dump will have me shaking more than an entire pot of coffee!

Was pretty easy. Shooting 25 yards with a Glock is not fun, but the rest of it was no problem. My best score was 114 out of 120, would have been closer to 120 with my Colt or SA... Hey, a day at range (even with a Glock) beats a day at work.

I never had any problem qualifying. I shoot often. I even looked forward to it. But I would be insulted having to do it with a Glock. Good luck Bud!

I want to confirm it, but I was told once qualified with a handgun, I can carry what I want... So Glock or 1911... I knew I got those mag holders that work with double stack and single stack for a reason.

I want a couple more Tripp mags for my Colt, and a little more range time with it before I carry it much. No issues with it, just an abundance of caution, and a lack of funds for mags before the qualifying today.

I trust my 1911 & my Ek knife, however I do not trust the ammo or the mags until I run the hell out of them both.
