Had our monthly USPSA match this weekend. I really wanted to focus on points for this match, regardless of speed. Came out clean with 94% of the available points. I did have 3 deltas on the match which I didnt like. The biggest thing about this match for me was the mental game. I tend to not take the mental game very serious at club matches. Its the most important thing to me at majors but at club matches I usually throw together a plan while im on deck. At this match I could really see where it hurt me. I was spending so much time RO/Scoring and talking that I made little time eating mistakes on every stage. I really need to remember this stuff so I'm gonna break it down stage by stage as its shown in my vid:
Stage 1 - 24A, 3C, 1D in 24.47s...This stage had target spread out all over the bay with 6 over 20 yds. My stage plan went to elephant dung when I transitioned to the first set of long targets instead of going to a side target that I had planned. Cost me about 2 seconds. I also had a delta on one of the long targets. I also noticed I was just kinda jogging around on the stage instead of moving with a purpose, that cost time.
Stage 2 - 06-03 Can you Count in 7.36s - 20Alpha....Ran ok on this classifier, times were a little slower than I liked. I ended up with like a 3.60 and 3.70 second strings. The draw on the second string was .76 and reload was 1.12. I tend to hover right around 1.1 second standing reloads in a match. On the first string I had a sticky mag that cost me a little time and then a little trigger freeze on the second string.
Stage 3 - 18A, 1C in 11.88s - This stage ran pretty good other than one stage planning error. I had planned to go to 11 rounds in the first two shooting positions and reload of the barrel and finish out. For some reason I dropped the mag when my feet got moving and I ended up doing an extra reload...probably cost me 1-1.5 seconds
Stage 4 - 12A, 3C, 1D in 10.40s - This is where I had my biggest mental error. I was ROing up until right before I shot and I didnt check my mags. Walked up there with a partial. I was running good then my gun ran dry, I estimate it took me 4 seconds to get the gun running again. My delta came from being impatient while transitioning.
Stage 5 - 23A, 3C, 1D in 18.66s - This stage went pretty smooth other than just a cple small hangups that cost me time. On the third array of targets I came in on the easy close target and started leaving on the harder no shoot covered target. My body was already on its way out of the box while I was shooting a 12 yard penalty target. Cost some time and 3 charlies there. I came into the last position and missed the first big steel, ran the rest pretty fast. The last steel was an activator for a swinger I really expected that swinger to get out there quicker, cost me a couple seconds there.
Overall I shot decent. I noticed that it didnt seem like I was shooting all that much slower even though I was focused on points so much. Seth shot an outstanding match using his Springfield XD for the first time. He came within 4 points of beating me and shot 93% of the points. You can see his match video on his youtube page here:
