So I like open but I hate the maintenance that goes along with trying to keep/get 2011 magazines/guns running in 9mm. Yah I could get 38superxxx but I am setup for 9 and I hate picking up brass. So I ordered a CZ Czechmate. It came with a c-more, mount (which I swapped with a 90degree cheely), extra barrel, comp, front and rear sights for shooting limited minor, a nice assortment of pins and springs for different applications, 3 140mm mags and a 170mm mag and a case large enough to use as luggage.
It came configured for irons so I had to install the comp, remove the rear sight and install the slide racker, and mount the optic. Took it to the range yesterday and sighted it in. Running my 124gr 9mm major load (176pf) I was able to keep it in a 6" circle at 30 yards off hand. Maybe suck for some of you all, but that's good enough for me! :) The trigger breaks crisp at 2lbs 1oz and the over travel and pre travel are adjustable. I think it's going to be a winner. The entire setup with the cheely mount was just a shade over 3K, which if you know open guns is a pretty good deal for a turnkey open setup.

Got the belt configured and everything ready to go for this weekends match at OKCGC. I will post a report here afterwards.

Are you going to replace the slide stop at regular intervals?
Yep, right when/if it breaks. :)

I had an SP01 that I put several thousand rounds through without breaking one. Hoping for the same luck. But I will have spares with me! ;)

with a 26rd big stick, this takes a big hit to the overall competitiveness of the czechmate platform, compared to a 2011with 28+1.
But It looks like a fun gun, nevertheless.

The big sticks are 29+1 but apparently mine are only 100% reliable with ammo at 1.142" or shorter, which is ok with me. I got it running like a raped ape now. Anyone that would like to shoot it, let me know and we can meet up. It's a fun gun for sure.

You going to be at the Ponca match tomorrow? I'd like to check it out. I have a Tactical Sport and would like to fondle the Czechmate version.

You mean 30+1 ;)

I am going to play with one of the springs and followers to try and get 30+1. I think I am going to stick with reliable for a little while before we frustrate ourselves again. :)

I had to miss the Ponca match. Daughters figure skating stuff this weekend. I may be at H&H tomorrow night though.

Mike, I tweaked my .40 S&W Tactical Sport mags a bit. I used the 17 round bodies and Grams springs and followers with CZ Custom base pads. This combo yields 20 round capacity. I covered the jaws in my vice and then very very gradually squeezed each mag so that they were just slightly wider. It allowed me to get one more round in the mags and they still insert smoothly. If you're interested in trying it I can give you some more info.

Thanks. I will keep that in mind for sure. I think the way I got them setup now with the czc spring follower and basepad is good for now. They are reliable and hold 1 more than my STI did. Maybe after I step on the first one or drop it on concrete. :)

Well, you shot with me all weekend. :)

It is running like a raped ape and I am sure enjoying it. Watched many open guns on our squad that cost twice as much have some serious issues all weekend long. The CZ just kept on a runnin. Love it.

So I have 4 matches in the gun and some play time at the silhouette range without a cleaning. The gun is going strong. As a side note on accuracy. The 33 yard USP's at hillbilly Classic went down remarkably quickly and the ram targets at 200 meters on the silhouette range were hit multiple times with the dot on its belly. We actually had hits beyond the 200 meter mark with my major load (8.5gr HS6, 115 MG fmj at 1.140). It's a fun gun and just keeps on a runnin..
