The Greenville Gunfighters of the Greenville Gun Club offer SASS cowboy action shooting on the 4th Sunday of each month, and Wild Bunch Action Shooting on the 5th Sunday (in months with five Sundays like April of 2012). Here is a link to the Greenville Gunfighters website with more information:http://sites.google.com/site/greenvillegunfighters/home

We will not have our regular 4th Sunday match in March of 2012 since the Greenville Gun Club is preparing to host the South Carolina State Championship cowboy action shooting match beginning on Thursday March 29 through Sunday April 1.

If you've never seen a cowboy match this will be a good one to watch. We have 163 shooters registered as of today and it's a good chance to come out and see what cowboy shooting is all about. If you've heard that cowboys shoot only shoot pipsqueak handloads, look for the guys and girls shooting "Frontier Cartridge".

Thursday features "side matches" including a four stage Wild Bunch match. In Wild Bunch we use a .45 1911 instead of single action revolvers (plus a rifle and shotgun). Wild Bunch features higher power factors, longer ranges and lots of reactive targets. No pasting holes in cardboard.

Come see us.

Next cowboy match at the Greenville Gun Club is Sunday, May 27.

We are thinking of organizing an "introduction to cowboy action shooting" clinic, perhaps on a Saturday. If anyone is interested in participating in a clinic, let me know.

Next cowboy match is this Sunday December 23. Looks like we will have clear weather.

Next Wild Bunch Action Shooting match is the following Sunday December 30.

We had an info table at last weekend's SCACA gun show in Greenville. Probably the comment we heard the most was, "I didn't know anyone was shooting cowboy action matches in the area". I think we'll try to have a table at the next one with some improved signage so that we'll be a little more visible. If you see a "Greenville Gunfighters" table, stop by and say howdy.

I've noticed several new forum members from the Simpsonville area. Our matches are held at the Greenville Gun Club in Conestee which is not far from the Simpsonville/Mauldin area.

Let me extend an invitation for folks to come out for a look-see. Bring your spouse, kids and the grandparents if they are coming over for the holidays. We are a friendly bunch and spectators are welcome. All we ask if that you wear eye and hearing protection. We can even lend you some if needed.

Just don't ask for Crunchy Frog-on match days I'm known by my alias "Abe E.S. Corpus".

We had several new prospective shooters at last Sunday's cowboy match including couples and families which is great. Most of these folks had seen our photos and video at the gun show.

Expecting more visitors this Sunday for Wild Bunch. I bet somebody out there got a new 1911 for Christmas. Here's a chance to wring it out.

Perhaps it is the media attention on gun ownership but I am hearing from more people about cowboy shooting. One of our shooters is in contact with a local 4H club about kids and parents getting involved.

Our next cowboy match is Sunday January 27 and we are deep into preparations for the SC State Match in March. I heard from a shooter who is coming from Oregon for that one.

Come check it out while there is still room to stand. Just kidding about that part but it's always fun to see new shooters and guests.

Let's see: Pistol or rifle? :P

The "spotters" would have a hard time tracking your hits, I imagine.

Our January match is this coming Sunday. There may be snow on Friday.

This match marks the third anniversary of my first match in January of 2010. It so happens we had a snowstorm the day before that match. It was cold but clear and no wind. We started an hour late to give it a chance to warm up a little. I was surprised to see about 15 brave souls show up to shoot. All the "fair weather" shooters missed a great match.

I know of two new shooters (maybe more) who are showing up to shoot this Sunday. We may have a smaller crowd which actually makes it a great day to start shooting or just to show up and watch because there's a little more time to chat with new folks and answer questions.

Registration opens at 8:30. If anyone is interested in checking out the match come out by 9:00 or so and I'll give all the new folks the "nickel tour" before the 9:30 safety briefing.

We had 40 shooters yesterday; quite a good crowd for a Winter match and it was a little chilly when we started. We had a new shooter who did very well. We also had four gentlemen who are interested in getting started in cowboy action; I gave them a little orientation tour before the match started and they stayed with us for the whole match, asking questions, talking to the shooters and checking out hardware, leather and the like.

One of the gentlemen told me afterwards, "I had read that cowboy shooters are friendly and welcoming, but you folks exceeded my expectations". There are five cowboy action clubs operating in South Carolina. In addition to Greenville there are two clubs in Columbia (Palmetto Posse and Savannah River Rangers), one near Summerville serving the Charleston/lowcountry (Geechee Gunfighters) and one in Aynor near the Grand Strand (Hurricane Riders). For those of you near the "borders" there are lots of clubs in North Carolina and Georgia.

If you have an interest in cowboy shooting check out a local match.

Our Wild Bunch match director has organized a special Wild Bunch match for Sunday February 10. This is not a regularly scheduled match but it looks to be fun. We will have a four stage Wild Bunch side match as part of the SC State Match (SASS State Championship) in March.

Our monthly SASS match is this Sunday; we are expecting a big turnout as folks get ready for "Manse's Revenge"-the SC State Championship Match in March.

If you would like to check out the "action", the State Match is a great time to come out, particularly on Friday and Saturday when the "main match" stages are going on.

Looks like great weather for the cowboy match tomorrow. We have a growing number of new shooters and we would welcome anyone who would like to come check out the matches.

Thought I would blow the dust off of this thread. Our next cowboy action match is this Sunday. Should be typical Summer weather. I helped set up for the match and the stages looked like a lot of fun.

We'll be hosting the first-ever South Carolina State Wild Bunch Match the last weekend in September so preparations are already under way.

If you are interested in cowboy shooting come check it out. It really is a lot of fun. Bring the wife and kids; we are a family friendly group. If you get into cowboy and your wife begins out-shooting you, well...

Let's try this again.

The Greenville Gunfighters monthly cowboy action shooting match is this Sunday, August 25. For more information check out the website, www.greenvillegunfighters.com.

We are a friendly group of folks who welcome new shooters, prospective new shooters and visitors. If anyone has any questions post a reply here or send me a private message.

We had 54 shooters today, a good turnout considering August is usually very hot.

A number of new-ish shooters today including a fellow from Oconee County who shot his first ever match in Georgia yesterday. I also spoke with a couple from Fair Play who are interested in getting started. We like to have guests and spectators; if we can get them shooting that's even better.

Next cowboy action match is Sunday September 22. I understand there will be six separate sets of steel set up so there will be lots of variety in the targets. If the weather is anything like this weekend it will be just about perfect.

Visitors and spectators are welcome. PM me with questions; lots of information on the website www.greenvillegunfighters.com

There are photos from past matches on the Greenville Gunfighters website. We used to have some videos on the site but when we changed web hosts we lost them. As I recall they were links to YouTube videos. I'll ask about putting them back up.

I'll start a new thread with links to some videos.

We set up the targets for the match on Sunday. The weather forecast is improving. Expecting this will be a good match.

Today's rain is making way for great weather tomorrow. It will be a great day for a match.

If you are in the Greenville area come by and check it out.

Best time to come is near the beginning of the match at 9:30. They close the gate after the match starts so it will be difficult to get in afterwards, even though we shoot until about 2:00.
