I'm trying to get into 3 Gun, so have been shooting my shotgun a lot, mostly cheap 7 1/2s and 8s from Wal Mart. I was cleaning out the garage today and ran across a bunch (one whole case unopened, plus six more full boxes) of Federal copper-plated Number 6s from a pheasant hunting outing several years back. I'm not sure whether to shoot these shells for 3 Gun, or sell or trade them to someone who can use them for pheasant hunting. Any postivies or negatives to just shooting them in practice and matches (aside from the increased recoil over lighter loads)? Thanks.

The copper plated will produce a much smaller/tighter pattern than the the cheap shells.

Most 3 gunners rely on chokes to produce the results.
If it were me, and I'm not a 3gunner I'd trade them off. Copper plated shotgun rounds sell for a premium, and buy what the guys that reply after this recommend

I've seen matches that specified lead shot 7 1/2 or smaller.
My local shotgun club specifies lead shot 7 1/2 or smaller.

The copper plated shot is premium stuff for hunting.

Looking at prices you have a $20 per box commodity.
Depending on what you choose for 3 gun, you can easily double your inventory and possibly triple it.
Good advice here on copper plated shot turning around and putting a ding on your head.
Sell/barter it.
OBTW, low recoil slugs & buckshot are popular.
You could get set up for an entire season including practice.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. Very good information. I'll sell or trade them off, and move on from there. Maybe I can find someone with some HP-38 or W231 that really needs some pheasant shells!
