Comps...what do you use?

Rusty that's carbon buildup if I'm not mistaken along with some corrosion. These comp will wear out. There us a lot of violent stuff going on in there. You should take your comp off every few thousand rounds A's you will usually get buildup just after the threads too. If it get heavy enough it can effect accuracy.

I looks like it's been awhile since anyone posted in this thread. I recently got a new 3 gun setup and decided to take the Rolling Thunder off of the rifle it was on to put it on the new setup. I was looking the thing over while it was off the rifle and noticed what looks like a ton of errosion on the first and second "baffles" for lack of a better term. I haven't had this break for very long but have run a few rounds through it. The RT was living on a 10.5" SBR and is now on a 16" super lite setup. The Rolling Thunder works really well on the SBR, I'm excited to see how it works on the go fast rifle! Check it...

Aftermath in Comp...

Rusty,

Like Jesse said, that looks like carbon buildup from the looks of that pic. Is that thing made out of stainless? If it is actually erosion, I'd be very curious as to what type of stainless they make them out of. Makes me think that inconel might be better, but man it would be some kind of pricey...

How many rounds did you run through it on the 10.5 Rusty?

Stainless is typically not as hard or tough as non-stainless steel.

It is erosion. You can tell in person. Kinda crazy. Makes sense with the short barrel, I think.

I haven't had the thing for all that long. I'd guess the round count on that comp to be around 500 or so... It does work really well on that rifle.

Look what Joe Bob dun brought me (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Seriously, though: ordered Thursday afternoon, received on Saturday. It was waiting when I got back into town today. Kudos, boys.

I just put a Spikes tactical muzzle brake on my rifle. Haven't had a chance to wring it out yet but I'm hoping it'll work out well for me.

Austin sent me one of the Griffin Armament comps for T&E. I won't get time to install it until at leat June. If anybody want to try it out let me know and I will send it to you as long as you promise to send it back by June.

Well I put a few rounds downrange today comparing my 16" AR with the Spikes muzzle brake on it with a 16" AR with the birdcage on it. Both rifles had the M4 contour barrels.
I noticed a slight decrease in recoil and muzzle jump (what little bit there is with a .223) when using the brake but honestly it wasn't much at all. I had to really pay attention to notice the difference so it didn't work out as well as I had hoped, but it still looks cool and I guess that counts for something.
