Church concealed carry

For me, the difficulty has always been more of a "how to safely carry" issue. There are "huggers" to contend with, and if you go the day-planner type holster, are you ok leaving that sitting on a pew where anyone can get to it. Then again, if my wife has a revo in her purse and that's sitting on the pew...

The whole spirit of concealed carry hinges on one person quietly doing what he thinks is right for himself / his family and MY instincts tell me I'm vulerable in church, so I carry when I can.
My instincts are based on experiences that are different from others, so they may not feel the same leading I do. It's also the reason I don't judge others that carry differently or not at all.

Maybe I should have put more details, I know that it's "no-no" to carry on school grounds. But the topic was about carrying at church. If the "threat" would present itself at a church building, the fact that the church building is now a school cafeteria isn't going to deter the "threat" from doing whatever it's intent is. The reference to columbine or any other school shooting is just that, a school shooting that took place on school grounds during school hours. I guess what I was asking in a round about way is...If you wanted to carry at church, and if your church is on a school ground, would you still carry even though you're not legally allowed too?

I have carried inside schools, legally, in full accordance with OK state law, both to do CHL classes at college and hunter safety classes in high schools with signed permission of the School Officials.
I also taught math at college with my carry gun left in the truck, still legal in OK.
However, when faced with the choice of attending a church function on school property at night, requiring me to leave my gun at home (can't even leave it in the car legally on secondary school property), I decided NOT to attend. Might risk a misdemeanor fine, but unauthorized carry or storage on sceondary school property is a felony charge with all that implies.

As far as school functions go, If its properly concealed no one will know. If I had to use it I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. As for church, The Lord helps those who help themselves. Thats all I got to say about that :)

I'm surprised no one had brought this up
Luke 22:36. Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.
OK, a sword is not a gun, but you could make a real good case that it is the modern equivalent. Jesus did not say to carry or not carry a sword in the temple, but just to carry. Leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation. I carry, against the wishes of church leadership, but like has been mentioned time and again, Concealed means concealed.

I carry every Sunday. Like one guy said already can you imagine something happening and having to watch your friends, family, or brothers and sisters in Christ be massacred because you didn't want to offend someone in the church. I carry everywhere I can legally. I don't want to live with those feelings.

On the lighter side. About a week ago I had to go buy a suit for my sister in laws wedding, bummer, and my wife and mother in law were there also. I didn't know there would be some sales lady and my mother in law standing around poking me to make sure I looked presentable at the shindig. The Macy's sales lady was feeling the M&P 9 fullsize on my hip and kept poking at it to figure out what it was. She asked "is that a phone?" to which I replied "nope". I could see the light bulb come on in her head and she said "Oh, oh, ok" in a nervous voice. My mother in law then asked me to get rid of it so I had to go to the dressing room and put it in my wifes' purse. My wife just kinda shook her head.

I have always had my ccw at church. The only time i'm not carrying is, when its not legal for me to be carrying. I believe that because of my training that carrying my CCW is my responsibility to protect those that cannot protect themselves.

Well, its not church, but some guy with marriage dificulties stormed into a hair salon in Seal Beach Ca, and killed 8 people. Latest report I read did not say if the estranged wife was one of the dead. The guy was arrested soon after. He had on body armor. Somebody with a concealed weapon going for center of mass would have not been sucessful.

You just never know when a situation is going down. Stay armed and practice for head shots I guess.

Along with head shots, this is just another example where the "double tapping" method of training fails. Keep putting rounds on target till it's no longer a threat. I have never been shot before or experimented with body armor, but just stacking rounds on someone would surely be somewhat debilitating right? Unless he has ceramic plates that diffuse the impacts. I dunno, where are the LEOs who may have some knowledge about what it feels like to get hit? Troy, you around?

Unless it just recently changed isn't unlawful to carry a gun in church in Texas?

No...the law is weird. Basically it says it's unlawful, and then the next section of law nullifies that and says that it's only illegal if they post 30.06 (just like anywhere else).

While I dont have 1st hand knowledge I'm pretty sure that short of trama plates 2 in the chest from a 9mm with armor will hurt like hell. Of course there are other variables to consider like the perp being amped on drugs or w/e.

I personally agree with the 2 chest then to the head theory, but in a crowded area you have to worry about bystanders beyond. When the adrenolin is running its hard to say what one will do, but hopefully the right decision will be made.

There's a very specific sign described in a section of Texas law that if posted means you cannot legally carry past it. It's in section 30.06, so everyone calls it the 30.06 sign.

Here's a link:

Last time I was in Texas I saw that sign on the front door of the strip club we went to. They had both the 30.06 and 51% signs.

Does that mean the girls had to be 51% covered up? That would suck

Yeah that would suck but no thats not what it means.
It indicates that the establishment derives more than half of its revenue from the sale of alcohol and is therefore off limits to CHL holders. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) requires licensees to post this sign if it applies to the establishment.
