Carry Gun Match - Heartland Outdoors 3-18-12

When open carry passes, I'm going with a full on open rig in 38 supercomp under my light jacket

You are what the media is afraid of....somebody will see that glock of yours... or was it an ak-47 id have to refer to the chart and die of a heart attack on the spot. Wonder if that would chage the guns don't kill people line to "guns don't kill people... well except for that one time"

You wanna know what chaps my A-Hole................... People who don't tape. We have a butt load of paople who show up and shoot and NEVER make a trip up to do any taping. That is BS. I tape all night long, so I feel like I have a right to complain... well.... not complain but mention it. I say David should be allowed to tell the non-tapers to GTFO. I missed 4 or 5 trips up to last night. I was either reloading or hitting the mens room. Just my opinion. I am ready to get flamied for it.

OH... And Burk, I hope you weren't offended when me and my buddy were harrassing you lasrt night about not having turned your card into Shannon. We were just joshing. AND to show you there are no hard feelings I am gonna shoot my sub-compact from concealment next match I am at so you can see how bad I suck with a sub-com.

Cheers my friends.

Folks not taping has been a bit of an issue at matches, including this one.

Here, because the squads are larger, the tape-slugs can hide better. I had hoped my friendly reminder was enough, but reports indicate that it was not.

From now on, we will institute a name call out. It'll work like this:

The scorekeeper will call out the name of the shooter, the on-deck person, then the next 4-5 shooters. "Al is shooting, Bill is on deck, Charlie, Dick, Frank and George tape and reset!"

Al and Bill do nothing but prepare to shoot, the rest of them tape and reset.

This does several things: everyone knows the immediate shooting order and when they are going to shoot. This alone will save time, as the next shooter should be standing in the box patiently awaiting the Make Ready command

It also calls folks out by name, so if Dick isn't taping, then everyone knows it. If Dick won't help, he can shoot last and tape his own targets, before and after he shoots.

But if Dick tapes his 4-5 turns, then he can take a break or whatever and not feel guilty about it.

When it gets to the bottom of the squad, then the first 4-5 shooters can reset for the last few.

Back in the old days, the last name called picked up brass. Due to ever increasing prices, maybe we should start doing that again.

At any rate, that's how we're going to do it at Heartland.

No problem bro. Good stuff

I think it's pathetic that something like this has to be put in place. Everyone that is adult enough & responsible enough to be shooting a gun at a match should not have to be told to tape! Unfortunately, I have noticed a couple of people that hang out in the store when they are not shooting; it's the same people every match. I just kept telling myself there must be some medical reason they aren't taping.....??

Come on people!! Let's all do our part!

If I'm ROing and notice someone not taping, I will certainly let them know about it. If I don't notice point them out to me. There is nothing that pisses me off more than slackers who think they are too good to tape. Like David said last night, if everyone tapes for 5 or 6 shooters per stage, no one has to tape all the time. This is a group participation sport, if they don't want to participate, they can stay home.

"It also calls folks out by name, so if Dick isn't taping, then everyone knows it. If Dick won't help, he can shoot last and tape his own targets, before and after he shoots."

So what you're saying is don't be a Dick.

I think the ROs do a GREAT job, the match is fun as hell, and I think the new sytem will be a benefit. I agree with Sandy that this SHOULD NOT be necessary, BUT it appears that it is. I still say if the peeps don't don't help out by taping and restting David should be able to tell them to GTFO. I do my part so I am not worried about it. Cheers.

Im down, the only reason I havent shot mine is the 130gr FMJs out of the 637 put my hand in the hospital...maybe Im a bit sensitive but Id rather not go home wishing I hadnt shot at all. So Pstmstr if youll let me get some 38s and a couple speed loaders I all in. I have 1 HKS speed loader, but no pouches, I dont really carry extra rounds on me when I carry the 38. If 5 aint enough then Im running to the truck for a bigger gun, just saying...So let me know, Im down for an all concealed snubby match!

No problem, I'll fix you right up.

If your shooting in the match the match is not a spectators sport.
I like the idea of shoot what you carry and from concealment. Dave's matches are big because there is something for most everyone.

Ankle holsters do well if you purchase your trousers one size longer then cut and hem. This way you have a larger opening.

Directly pointing out ones oversight on pasting is better than telling someone to bugger off from a mature standpoint and a MD/ customer orientated posture in my opinion.

I totally agree no one should have to be reminded to assist.

I really like the idea of policing brass.

Would had liked to had shot this match and shot the snub. Had not done that in a very long while and I like match themes as well.

Congrats to HoA and to the division winners.

Some people have a tape allergy. The therapy for that condition is standing in the back of the room talking to a posse of other people who probably want to tape... but are really busy buying into what ever your babbling about.

It's a serious condition... maybe we should walk for a cure or stand on street corners collecting money in rubber boots till we free the world of tape disease!

Or We could tape their mouth shut. It may not cure the disease, But it is a good way to treat the symptoms. :)

Genius! Right up there with the invention of white bread and canned beer!

Whoa there pard., let's no get ahead of ourselves
Let's not go undervaluing the genius of putting beer in cans for cold sale.
