Folks not taping has been a bit of an issue at matches, including this one.
Here, because the squads are larger, the tape-slugs can hide better. I had hoped my friendly reminder was enough, but reports indicate that it was not.
From now on, we will institute a name call out. It'll work like this:
The scorekeeper will call out the name of the shooter, the on-deck person, then the next 4-5 shooters. "Al is shooting, Bill is on deck, Charlie, Dick, Frank and George tape and reset!"
Al and Bill do nothing but prepare to shoot, the rest of them tape and reset.
This does several things: everyone knows the immediate shooting order and when they are going to shoot. This alone will save time, as the next shooter should be standing in the box patiently awaiting the Make Ready command
It also calls folks out by name, so if Dick isn't taping, then everyone knows it. If Dick won't help, he can shoot last and tape his own targets, before and after he shoots.
But if Dick tapes his 4-5 turns, then he can take a break or whatever and not feel guilty about it.
When it gets to the bottom of the squad, then the first 4-5 shooters can reset for the last few.
Back in the old days, the last name called picked up brass. Due to ever increasing prices, maybe we should start doing that again.
At any rate, that's how we're going to do it at Heartland.
