The malt liquor thread was mostly for comedy value, but I realize that the number of grad students/punk rockers/homeless people on a gun forum is below average so it wasn't accessible to most people here. However I've noticed that there are some fans of GOOD beer on here (including some Ambrose-Burnside-lookalike homebrewers) so let's get this rolling.

The other day I bought some Tallgrass Brewing Co 8-bit Ale on a whim. Mostly because of the can:

I like ridiculously hopped-up beers, and I LOVE 8-bit video games. The can says "Hop Rocketed" and has a picture of drunk Pac-Man! The website has the Konami Code on it! Poopgiggle is in nerd heaven!

Except the beer sucks. There's not a whole lot to it. It's like someone took a can of 3.2 Budweiser, threw a couple hops flowers in there, and shook it around for 5 minutes. If it's "Hop-Rocketed," the rocket is the Challenger.

Voted 5/10, because as mediocre as this is, I know how much worse beer can get. And the can is awesome enough that it's worth a point.

Review over, time to do some speedruns on Super Mario Brothers.

Everyone feel free to post reviews of beers you like.

Protip: if you want something that's legitimately hop-rocketed, without reaching toxic "crazed homebrewer" levels of hoppiness, I'm a pretty big fan of the Hercules Double IPA.

I like most all the stuff either Sean McCann, or I make. If it wasn't bottled/ kegged right here it isn't worth the time or taste bud destruction.

Moose Drool is one of the best beers being produced right now.

I was tired of hops for a while, and the last couple batches of beer I made were very low hops. The pale ale was only bittered, not given any aromatics. The dark wheat stout was granted a tiny amount of hop aroma.

Trois Pistoles or Three Philosophers if you like dark beer and Belgians, 8.5/10.

Two Headed Beast is my favorite stout. I haven't seen it in Oklahoma. Seems to be an east coast thing 9/10.

Anything Mccann/Miller's....11/10.

Oh the beers we can't get in Oklahoma.

I'm going to Chicago for Christmas and I'm coming back with a couple boxes of Goose Island.

the real question, how is the peanut butter?

I used it to make some ghetto pad thai today with ramen noodles and sriracha. elephant dung was awesome.

Sam Adams boys, the beer of champions. The regular Boston lager is awesome but the octoberfest is great too. If you're in the mood for a wheat beer the cherry wheat is fantastic.

Hmmm Sam Adams likes to over hop stuff to disguise mediocre brewing, but i must say their Oktoberfest isn't too bad for a big brewery . I would imagine that Mitch,s brews would rate up their with Miller/ McCann after briefly talking to him about brewing.

Rogue Chipotle. Mmmmm. Haven't had any of that since I graduated from OSU back in '10. Been too long.

Can't wait to get back to KS over Christmas to get some New Belgium beer. It's not pasteurized and since OK doesn't allow the sale of cold beer we can't get it down here.

I Schafley's Pale ale but I can only get it in St. Louis. Got to make a run back to Tx some weekend and also get some Lawmower from St. Aronalds in Houston. I also like Purple Haze from Abaita. And anythign from Linies is good.

Giving the 8-bit another chance because I had one can left. elephant dung still sucks. I'm looking forward to cracking open a Stroh's when this thing is over with. At least Stroh's has no pretension of being good.

I hate the fact we can't get cold beer from the liquor store. I live close to KS and when I make a run to Powder Valley, Potters in Arkansas City gets a visit.
