About the Donation Give Away

50/50 is the way to go, helping out an injured officer and his family is AWESOME no matter what those idiots think. If they don't like it, they can donate elsewhere and not be included in this community effort....

Well i don't see you catching any flak here, so should you really be upset that some of the same people that say people that run pawn shops are going to hell, that killing innocent people to "make a point" to the gov't is ok, that USA shouldn't donate a dime to people dying in japan, etc... are talking bad about you (do you really want to take their advice on anything??). Look i think it is FREAKING AWESOME that you even considered giving some of the money away, don't let some pricks that are hiding behind a computer affect you decision, i would love to know how many of those people have even donated themselves. So why would you consider not donating because a couple of "internet bullies" said something. Sorry i am coming off so strong, i just cannot stand it when people try to do a good deed and other people sit back and criticize.... Well this was still my "mild" version, so brandon if you are still not thinking of donating i will type of my "harsh" version if you still need convincing.....
It is stuff like this that makes me wish i would win the lottery, because if i did i would start a free company that do nothing but track down people that talk all tough on the internet and criticize everyone. And after we tracked them down, i would ring the doorbell, kick them in the nuts and then just walk away!! hahahha

I hope you guys will join me in posting on the other forums in support of this effort. I don't understand why people are hating on this. I wish somebody would have handed me some money when my herpes rash was so bad i couldn't make any movies for a year but nobody stepped up. I had to struggle on my own.

Brandon and Jesse,

Does the forum sponsor that is donating the pistol have an issue? No need to answer this, I'm just making a point.

If not, forget the naysayers. That just leaves more chances for the rest to win a new pistol. The naysayers loss, IMO. You guys are making a good effort with boomer shooter. Just keep doing it the way you and the members want.

We have no issues. We're actually really excited about half the donations going to help Office Peery's family.

Benjamin-Benjamin, if you win the lottery I'd love to be part of that company you're talking about.

DANGIT - all this drama toinght - I forgot to get a Mega Millions ticket - I swear if Benjamin won - I'm gonna be pissed....

This is bothering me. Although the intent of helping the Peery Fund is noble, this is embezzlement of funds. This is wrong no matter how noble the cause (which has it's own means of receiving donations). Any trustworthiness of those collecting donations has been damaged. Assuredly this will impact the decision of those who donated for the original cause, who disagree with this, to ever contemplate supporting similar ideas in the future. They are not whiners as some are so easily claiming.

This is no different than government taking taxpayer money which is intended for one purpose then diverted to another. How many here get upset when we hear of Social Security funds going to pay for pork barrel projects for example?

Those who made this decision are wrong and discredited themselves and any future give aways. Again, I donated to the Peery Fund and believe it's great so many Oklahomans and others are doing this for him and his family. Yet even if only one donor for the give away is upset, that one donor is in the right for feeling betrayed because he or she was.

Just to make it clear Dutch - we had 2 donation BEFORE we announced the proceeds would be split with the Peery fund and since making that announcement we have had over 25 - I think the volumes speak - ALSO I have offered to give those who do not approve of the new cause their money back and have not been taken up on it. It was going to a good cause - now its going to TWO good causes.

I don't quite understand what you are saying, so if I am off on this I apologise.

Everyone knew that they were donating money for a chance to win a pistol. It really does not matter what the money is going to, they are still in the running for a chance at a free pistol. Hell Brandon could have just kept the money for his beer fund. Also I am don't know how it could be considered embezzelment, please share more on how you think it is that way.

Sir, the number of donations prior to the decision are irrelevant. This is a matter of right and wrong. You made a decision to divert funds intended for one thing for another. That is wrong. You sir, are in the wrong.

What the heck are your ranting about now? The government isn't taking this money. Paypal is getting their cut and nobody seems to mind that. I think paypal is being run by the government!

If anybody wants their money back they can have it but the paypal fees are going to come out of the rest of the money that is freaking going to two non profit organizations.

I thought about just deleting your comment but its amusing so ill leave it there.

As I see it, he has been very clear on what HIS website is choosing to do with the money and has offered to reimburse anyone who dislikes this, so what is the issue?

I'm not going to get all pissy and ban you or anything - you are 100% free to think what you want.

The original money was going to be used to sponsor a local major match. After a fellow BSer posted about the Chad Peery Fund - we decided that we should split the proceeds and half go to the match and half go to the fund. When this decision was made ONLY two people had donated. Since then we have had over $700 in donations. If people did not think that the reason for the donations were valid - they would not donate - there is nobody forcing them - you have a choice - you can donate straight to the fund, donate here and half go to the match and half go to the fund, or go buy beer with the money. How is changing how the donations are being spent a few hours after it start diversion of funds and embezzlement? This just doesn't make any sense honestly.

It's not about the winning of a pistol. If not for the goodness of the folks at Sooner State Pawn (whom I had the pleasure of meeting this morning when I went to their shop), there would be no pistol. Originally the intent of the give away was to support future matches.

This is about diversion of funds intended for a specific purpose and sold as such. That diversion of funds, no matter how noble the cause... is completely wrong.
