Just to be clear:

em·bez·zleâ€'[em-bez-uhl]

â€"verb (used with object), -zled, -zling.
to appropriate fraudulently to one's own use, as money or property entrusted to one's care.

Obviously, this is not the case. Money is being DONATED for other people's use. Thats all I'm going to say about this thread.

whoa, whoa, whoa, this is not a place for logic or calm thinking :)

I cannot believe you just used logic and calm in the same sentence. What kind of forum is this? Nazism I tell ya! Just a bunch of flippin nazis. That's it! I'm outta here!!

Ok I'm finished. Just Sitting on a payloader really bored this morning looking for some entertainment. definitely worth the price of admission.

This has to be one of the craziest threads I have seem on BoomerShooter since I joined. And FWIW I will be donating to [both] noble causes.

Brandon it's your site ,your idea so do what you want . The difference between this donation and the IRS is that this donation is voluntary. If some dont like your distrabution of funds then they don't need to donate.

I'm not going to get all pissy and ban you or anything - you are 100% free to think what you want.

The original money was going to be used to sponsor a local major match. After a fellow BSer posted about the Chad Peery Fund - we decided that we should split the proceeds and half go to the match and half go to the fund. When this decision was made ONLY two people had donated. Since then we have had over $700 in donations. If people did not think that the reason for the donations were valid - they would not donate - there is nobody forcing them - you have a choice - you can donate straight to the fund, donate here and half go to the match and half go to the fund, or go buy beer with the money. How is changing how the donations are being spent a few hours after it start diversion of funds and embezzlement? This just doesn't make any sense honestly.
Not to be disagreeable, but I thought the original, "original" purpose of the drawing was to raise money for boomershooter operating costs. The only problem with the drawing, is just that it has been "too free flowing" in concept and execution.

You are 100% correct Bob. We should have had everything spelled out very specifically from the get go so everyone was clear on what was happening. I'm still not sure we will need to give 50% of the proceeds to the match but at this point changing that be a complete mess. I definitely learned a thing or two about giveaways and donations here. Thanks for the input.

I guess I'll simply agree to disagree with the majority then. Unfortunate that so many are willing to condone an action that was never brought before this community for discussion. Red herrings abound, be it the purpose (the Peery Fund), the number of donations made prior to this decision or others. Had this been presented to the forum BEFORE acting then I would have supported it. As I said, I've contributed to the Peery Fund through the donation mechanism on Officer Peery's website. If I hated cops (being a former military cop myself), it don't think I'd have made that donation.

As for being labeled a troll, say what you wish. Such is not the case as any of my past postings will reveal that I'm anything but a troll. I am simply one man calling foul on a decision that is wrong and inappropriate. Not one of you can uneequivocally state that I am the one who is wrong. You may disagree with my opinion, but in the scheme of what is right and wrong, this decision is and remains wrong and I will stand by this opinion.

The purpose of the Give Away was to support BoomerShooter and future competitions. End of story. Diversion of one red cent towards anything but that purpose (no matter how good the cause) without asking those who are being solicited for donations is wrong. Had I had been the sole donor to the original cause and the decision was made AFTER my donation and I objected... it seems that very few on this forum would support my objection, instead reverting to calling me a troll and hateful of the police fraternity. It would seem that many here would willingly condone something wrong in the name of something good. That is completely unfathomable in my mind and with my moral compass.

Those who support this diversion of donations without prior discussion by this forum's owners with the membership for any cause other than it's intended purpose are wrong. End of story.

I'd like to point out that Dutch has been nothing but polite and this forumn is a place to exchange ideas. He has his opinion the same as everyone else. My moral compass may be a bit out of whack though. lol... I think that the offer to refund donations in the case of an objection covers the possible oversight in splitting where the money ends up, I don't think that anything done was in the name of being decpetive. I would like to see any serious discussion stay civil and above name calling or anything else that has the potential to divide the community. This fundraiser is what it is at this point and I, personally, don't have any problems with it as it stands.

I think you guys have done an excellent job of handling this by offering to refund the money of those who do not wish for a portion of their donation to go to the Peery Fund. I donated to enter the drawing before finding out that half of the proceeds would go to help officer Peery and his family, after finding out that information I was glad you guys had made the decision to split the donations. Like it has been stated before if someone is not happy with the change they do not have to donate to the site and if they have already donated they can request a refund. I have no problem with the split however if someone who has already donated to the Peery fund and thought this money was going to fund a match I could see why they would be upset, however if you have not donated to either in my honest opinion you have no say in the matter.

Keep up the good work this site is awesome.

I agree partially with you Dutch. However I don't have a problem with the decision that was made.

As I stated above, had this been discussed before making a decision, then I would have gotten behind it with my support and donated knowing that I'd be helping out Officer Peery and never winning the firearm offered and that instead of having 100% of the donations going towards supporting this site and future matches, only 50% would be going towards that purpose. I know that no deception was intended yet going foreward with this as was done simply was inappropriate. And that is all I'm attempting to point out without being labeled a naysayer, a troll and a cop hater which is nonsensical since I was a military cop.

If I'm supposedly a "valued" member of this forum as mentioned by it's owner within this thread (after being attacked by them in public) and private messages sent to me by them, then I'm hoping that my pointing this out would've not been turned in a hatefest towards me. Not that it bothers me in the least. I can take it and since I only know two people on this forum personally, what is thought of me is of little consequence. But doing what is right matters to me and any way I look at this situation it was not done in an appropriate manner. It makes no matter that those who donated before this was implemented are okay with it. What matters that a change in plans with people's donations and potential donations should have been discussed beforehand.

As it stands, the Peery Fund was given more by me than had I would have given to the BS Give Away. I want to support BS but being ganged up on by fellow members and it's owners really isn't the way to earn any support. And for every person who has chimed in on this thread to attack... how many are just sitting back taking it all in and not saying one word but making the decision not to support this forum? Maybe it's a wash. I've been told by it's owners that they've seen a marked increase in donations. Wonderful. But how many donations have been withheld?

I hope that any future donation plans are thought out in more detail. Whether I stay or leave the forum doesn't matter as I'm nobody. I expect no apologies from those who attacked me nor do I ask for any. Only thing that matters to me is doing what is right. And in order for this group to grow and be known as an above board organization then doing the right thing is the primary objective.

Anyways, I have a flight to catch to Canada early tomorrow morning and I have a lot of things to do today before I leave. Oklahoma will be gaining a new resident in a few days as I bring my wife down now that her immigration has been finalized. :)

Lets quit beating the dead horse - when its all said and done - things are staying 100% how they are - 50% to the match and 50% donating to the Chad Peery fund. It would be no different than 100% going to the match and me donating 50% out of my pocket. Bottom line is - Jesse and myself have been using our money to run the site and just recently sponsors have been coming on board to help with that. The idea of a sponsor is to create operating capital for the site. What we do with that is really up to those who are involved with those decisions. We have just decided that we would try our best to give back to the members. I'm not sure of any other forum that I am a member of, not just local ones, that does the things we do in just a short time of being online. Sure we are not perfect - but our intentions are there. When its all said and done - we will be sponsoring the match as originally planned, donating money to a very good cause, and the site will keep going on as it has been. Did we change our mind after we initially posted what we were doing the give away for, YES - is it our place to do that - YES. The pistol was given to ME to use as a give away for the site. It was my idea - I could have just requested the cash instead and the sponsor was OK with that - and nobody would have seen any benefit from it and we would have just used the money as we saw fit without asking anyone's input. Doing it as we did - we give the members a chance to win a gun, we sponsor a match, and donate to a good cause. If you dont agree - don't donate - ITS THAT SIMPLE.

I'm off my soap box - I wish you the best on the trip to Canada Dutch - safe travels and we will be waiting here on BoomerShooter when you are back online in the states...

Lets quit beating the dead horse

Amen, brotha'. I am ready for good ol' gun talk. I know this is an important topic but I think everyone said what they wanted to say in the first couple posts then it was just rehashing the same thing, over again.

Thanks for offering the raffle donation and giving some of the proceeds to charity.

I am good with 50/50 your heart is in the right place helping out. There will always be someone that will not like what you do.

I guess I still don't even understand the moral dilemma here. I mean, really, who was wronged? Please, Dutch, tell me who was wronged. A PM would be fine if you don't want to tell us here.
