So what pound spring should you use to reduce recoil on a standard load?

Cool. Thanks. I'm new to the whole match shooting thing and I have a frankenstein 1911 I'm working on.

Not a 1911 guy but some of the guys I used to shoot with stated they were running around the 10 lb range. I always felt setting up the recoil spring was dependent on the shooter. Get one of the variety packs or a few different wt springs and have fun testing.

I just worked up a load for CDP/SS, using 230gr cast lead round nose bullets. My scale says it's 4.1-4.2 gr of Bullseye* and it is pretty consistent at 168PF. Recoil is very nice, runs fine with whatever my 1911's stock spring is (probably 18lb).

*My scale is a Lee POS so for all I know it's actually 4.5 grains. Work this up yourself.
