2011 High Plains Shooting Challenge, June 25th & 26th

Thanks for the offer Jesse! I've added some upgrades to the AK that will tip the scales in my favor now!

Had to send back the Nordic upper to try and get it fixed. The mags ordered for it never came in, so I have to change guns. I may change division, also, depending how well the replacement gun shoots, and how well _I_ shoot it.

Shooting factory .223, it'll cost about $100 in ammo to shoot this match and about $15 for rimfire. Sure am glad they are allowing it!

One concern I have is, based on one of Traprs posts, that .22 rimfire shooters may have to hit a 1" target at 25yds. Hopefully I misinterpreted that post. If not, then I need to get a scope mounted.

Anyone have details ?

Yeah, but I need to hit five of them ON PURPOSE......

The stage has 3 positions, 5 targets from each one. The kicker is, you can fire ONLY five shots from each position before moving to the next. You can go back to a previous position, but the key to a good time is no misses.

rimfire, 3yds to 100yds smallest target 4 moa, 1" at 25yds
centerfire, 3yds to 300yds smallest target 4 moa, 4" at 100yds

know your trajectory!!!!
shoot from other positions besides prone or a bench for accuracy!!!!

hope that helps

Yeah, I'm thinking there might end up being some spaghetti at this match, too. I'm planning for the 1/8-inch contingency unless he means that the absolute smallest target will be 1" at 25yd and the same or larger at the ranges closer than 25. I'm really looking forward to shooting this match. I'm probably going to get my fourth point of contact handed to me but it should still be a fun match.

I just posted on BE, that There is much more worrying and fretting going on than there needs to be. The closest precision rimfire target will be 20ish yards away and it will be bigger than 4moa, not much, but bigger. Dave, if you weren't worried about seeing a 4moa target at 100 then why are you worried about it at 25, its the same size when seen over your sights??????

You will need to know your trajectory (bullet impacts) well. All rimfire targets will be calibrated to fall with 22lr HV ammo, its the most prevalent and easy to find ammo in the world so thats what we are using, if you will be using Standard velocity ammo then you will take your chances!!!! If you feel that you hit a target and it didn't go down then keep shooting the stage and call for a calibration on that target AFTER you finish the stage, that way my dead eye dick RM can break out his 35+ year old 22lr out and test the target, if it falls then you eat the penalty if not you get a reshoot after we reset the target to fall, reshoots will not be determined by whether or not there is a bullet mark on the target only by if it fell when tested.

REMEMBER bring along 20.00 at registration to pay for your mulligan if you want to purchase one, you only get one!!! and you cannot purchase once the mathc begins!!!

and yes I meant nothing smaller than 1" will be used as a target.

I was advised that tha smallest target at 100 yds for rimfire shooters would be an 8" plate. This equates to a 2" target at 25 yds, hence my confusion which prompted my question.

Plus, I was going to shoot magnified originally. My replacement gun is unmagnified, but that may change.

My goal is to have fun at this match. To do that, I need to practice!!

David, who advised you of that??? I have always stated 4moa in all my posts, I hope it has not caused you great anguish and trepidation.

You are not the only one with questions though, and practice is always a good thing, you might try the RNT rifle class scheduled for the weekend before the match, kurt will be covering all the fine points of rifle use.

AK man, a dremel will do wonders for cutting a bullet in half, so please do not attempt to try, i figured your post was in jest but just wanted to inform you.

Trapr,

Just wanted to be sure you got my PM on enos about changing to centerfire irons for the match. Looking forward to this one! Trying to move some things around so I can make it to you and Kurts class as well. Should know in a day or two. Thanks!
