Is it time to retire the 1911?

I have a whole bunch of striker fired pistols, but in no way do I think the venerable 1911 is obsolete.. I have four 7 and 8 round mags loaded and sitting next to my pair of 1911’s every night….

    What 1911 brands to avoid?

My opinion is to be able to look at and handle any Gun I buy. I will not buy anything I can’t appraise myself.. you might find the perfect Kimber or Taurus if you can look it over first. I have a Tisas and a Springfield, both work great but they weren’t my first choice. I handle a lot of...

The Prodigy™ from Springfield Armory takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with double-stack capacity

interesting,,, was wondering how thick the grip is, doesn't. wouldn't mind handling one, but it's a little steep in price for me...

    1911 Government Appendix Carry

Anyone still looking at this thread? i have tried larger handguns AIWD, like my Glock36 or 1911, but have had trouble bending at the waist. i do carry my smaller pistols and j-frame that way all the time now, though. much better than the 4-5 o'clock position i used to carry, too much problems...

    Rear Sight Preference

depends on the Front Sight. if it's a round White Dot, i like the Rounded Rear Sight. a Straight Post Style like the Government Model 1911, i like the Square Style. anyone here ever file the inside of the Government Style Rear Sight to make the sight picture a little easier? i was thinking...

Another lesson learned while working on a 1911

Springfield Arms,,, although they are very nice pistols, the reason i stayed away from them is they are not exactly Mil-Spec(as has been pointed out to me by some who know). Some, many, all, not sure which, are fitted differently than, say, a Colt. i'd love to hear more from SA owners on this...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

Tisas Service Model 1911a1,,, bought one and have been enjoying it very much. i joined this site because my Tisas has rekindled my interest in 1911's. had a Colt mkIV years ago and enjoyed it, great handgun. i wanted to get back into the 1911 world and the Tisas is a very accurate reproduction...
