I don't see many online. Found on at $750 and one at $900. It looks like a $650 competition gun to me. No fiber optic front sight or ambi safety.

I'm still a newb to competitive shooting. Why would you want to shoot a .45 and limit yourself to 7 rounds? I love hosing away with my M&P 40 with 15 rounds. Is it just for more of a challenge when you've become such a badass with everything else? Or is it kinda an elite brotherhood to shoot a 1911? Because if it's all about being ATAS, even old school ATAS, I may have to give it a try.

SS in USPSA is limited to 8 rounds. I'm not sure what the IDPA class for a SS is all about.

It is definitely old schoolish but you can get a nice 2# 1911 trigger and superior accuracy that you can't get with a polymer gun.

I just bought a nice 1911 chambered in .40 S&W from Accurate Iron. It's a Franken 1911 so it's not pretty but the trigger is very nice. You're welcome to try it. I'm gonna try to sneak out to okcgc Saturday and shoot the classifier with it. I'll shoot it at H&H next Sunday too.

Momma bought me that Rock Island Tactical for Christmas and I absolutely love it. That is about all I can see spending on a 1911. OH.... AND I will run it at the next heartland match! Can't wait to take a beatin' as a low cap shooter. Any suggestions on a good holster for it?

You want IWB or a belt holster? I can bring you my BladeTech holster to try at the Heartland match. I think I own about 8 BladeTech holsters and don't plan on changing. I havent tried their CCW stuff yet. Their customer service is exellent. I have damaged two of their holsters due to my negligence and I told them the stupid story and how it was my fault and asked for a deal on a new one and they gave me free ones both times.

David Elderton is the guy that runs the Heartland match and he makes good stuff too I'm told. Haven't tried one myself yet.

Plenty of 8 round 45 mags which is the limit for USPSA SS at major PF and (I believe) IDPA CDP. Your M&P needs to play in Lim-10 unless you load down to minor PF to shoot production or SSP, or get some extensions to get 20+1 in the gun to play in limited.

In a USPSA match you don't shoot against the limited/open guys with a SS gun. You shoot against other SS shooters, overall results are just for fun, some clubs don't even announce em.

Shoot a few nice 1911's and you'll understand why people like shooting them.

Shows how much I know about the 7 round 8 round deal. Everybody keeps pointing out my ignorance!

I have thought about loading down to 10 rounds and playing in production but I carry with 15 rounds and this is my carry gun and the only reason I shoot in comps is too practice for CCW. Trigger time. Plus I'd have to get more mag holders.

I don't know what limited, limited-10, or really production means. I just write on the card what they tell me and shoot!

Limited is kinda "open iron sights" with comps and external recoil reducers outlawed, to really be competitive you need 20 or more rounds of full power 40 in the gun, don't shoot minor, minor sucks, don't use 15 round mags and expect to compete.

Lim-10 is Limited, with a 10 round mag cap limit, you get points for major 40 with the capacity restriction of Production (this is where your M&P fits best right now with factory ammo).

Production is kinda stock gun with a few enhancements allowed, but USPSA rules specify a 10 round capacity limit, and everyone gets scored minor regardless of actual PF (this is where factory 40 sucks, most of it makes major).

Clear as mud now that I look at it. :)

I would appreciate that Jesse. Thanks. What model/s do you prefer? I would a belt holster for matches and maybe a IWB for carry. Got any suggestions? Thanks again.

I'll post you some links in the morning when I'm on my computer.

Jeremy your stock M&P 40 is kindoif caught in the middle of the divisions. You are definately giving up some speed to the limited race guns with the mag wells and 20 round mags.

Your gun is probably best suited for L10. Unfortunately not many people shoot that division because it's there for the 10 rounds in the mag max states. I shoot my 3 gun G34 in it sometimes so I can run with the production guys sorta kinda.

If you are competing to get better with your carry gear I'd say run L10 or production. All those extra mag changes are awesome for getting that skill down.

When I started I shot production for a year. 4-6 mag changes every stage makes you fast in a hurry. It makes that one mag change in limited easy breezy.

Limited is all about movement, getting your gun up and firing asap when hitting a position, and shooting on the move. Since you only have one mag change if any that skill is lost at times.

Open is for guys that can't see sights anymore or that are young and dont want to slow down and see the sights all the time. Lol.

Really what all the divisions mean is that you have a reason to buy 6 different guns.

Hey Jesse,

I bought a holster for that 1911. It is a looper leather holster but is exactly like one of the bladetechs on their site. Thanks for the offer to loan me one.
