Not sure of year built guessing early 60's but anyone with knowledge of 1911's surely knows of one of the 1st master smiths Armand Swenson and his trademark of using S&W K frame sights, sharing for the younger crowd
eye candy for the been there bunch, zero malfunctions shot great just one of the classics that you do not see anymore..
Built on a vintage 1918-1911 Colt frame, enjoy all, we also took a 1967 National Match with us today that is a real tack driver for sure, both shot very well the 67NM was in the class of my STI which I shot great....

We were doing body/head transitions and 2 of us had zero misses out of 4 runs then switched to my 8" 9mm carbine and used that. 20 yds distance with all… Loading 8 rounds only.

This 1911 was 1 of 36 from an estate sale I got wind of, I got a friend to arrange sale for the owner of all and he gets his choice of 1 for the work, he took a pre 70 Colt national match with box, also a SA Army new in box unfired and not even getting into the long guns, a lifetime collection from a passed friend.

I tried to get my 1911 Gold Cup to Swenson in the mid 70's and he was so backed up he wasn't taking any new orders at the time. I did find a guy down in Arkansas who did the work for me by the name of Bill Wilson. Answered his own phone and got it done for me in about two weeks. Still have it.

From this collection there is one that will be held and not sold until we get to shoot it A S&W 460 it probably will be my 1 chance to shoot one.

A thing of beauty. Swenson was the original 1911 custom builder before it was main stream. Clint Smith has a rare one of those also.

Nice looking piece. Hoag was another gunsmith who used S&W K-sights. I have one of Hoag's pistols, and it's wonderful to this day. Took it through two trips to Gunsite and it never failed. I even have a Pachmayr .22 Conversion Kit for it, although I've never even taken it out of the box. I've also had the privilege of going on a walk through of Armand Swenson's shop, drinking Dom Perignon at 10:00 in the morning.

As I look at a few of my early 1911's I compare them to the one's of a more modern era and see that they were manufactured (customized) for target shooting, not as a defensive weapon, fast draw and quick target acquisition (Bo Mar adjustable sights). However, I got a pretty high ranking shooting my Wilson customized 1911 with those sights in IPPSC competition. And seemed to be pretty fast on target. Young eyes and everyone had similar or worse gear. Sorta like golf clubs.
