For my first ever match plus first 3 gun I had a blast. Started out intimidated by everything but that went away on the first stage. Then it was down to shooting and I've done lots of that over the years.
Want to thank everyone that was involved with setting it all up. You definitely made the drive worth it. To Jesse, thanks for running a great squad and helpiing with the walk throughs. To Troy C., thanks for the great instruction on the first stage of the day. You broke it down so even I could understand it.

My favorite cheap handguard is the DPMS carbon fiber handguard for $80. Those Nordic handguards are nice but they are not light.
Another +1 for Tony...!

Had a great time as well. Glad to see the matches are on saturday now. Also great to hear that we will have the match next month. Good to see some of you that i havent seen in about a year. Thanks for the help. Looking forward to next month.

Hey Everett, what were your friends impressions of the match? Do you think he'll be coming back out?
I was also on Tony's squad, but he doesn't mention how I helped. I helped by not causing any trouble and that's a big deal me, still, good job Tony, it always takes someone to lead.

no, it happened again on the next stage and when we ejected the chambered round to show clear, it pulled the brass out but not the bullet so on the next stage i couldn't get one chambered because a bullet was still in it.... so frustrated because it happens EVERYTIME i try to eject the chambered round..

Gonna have to have the headspace checked on that one. I'm wondering how it ran as long as it did. Sounds like something is cratering or loose but I have no idea what. The AR experts can help on this I sure, that's just not me.
If it were a S&W revo I might could be of some help.

Definition, "leade"
That portion of a firearm's barrel immediately in front of the chamber where the the bullet travels prior to contacting the rifling.
The bullet is engaging the rifling upon chambering. Either the bullet is seated out too far or you need to increase the leade.

Wasn't there but by chance were you running 556 in a 223 chamber? If they are reloads what is the COAL and crimp? Had you run a lot of lacquer through it in the past and might need to clean the chamber area / leade?

i was running federal .223, i was having the problem basically from day 1
Benjamin was running factory federal .223 ammo. I'm pretty sure he hadn't run anything but that ammo in this rifle. I warned him almost every stage that it would happen sooner or later, so we were kind of expecting it. I'm just glad that what happend to Jesse's rife, didn't happen here. I could be wrong, I think it's the leade just like David said.

Man that sucks. As suggested have the chamber / leade checked and get back with the bbl manufacturer if possible.

I have it now. I have a few new bolts, so I'm going to try another out. The barrel is from LOKI and made by Satern, so I'll get in touch with them if I can't figure it out. I'm also going to try some different ammo in it. I'm with David too. My first thought was that it was engaging the rifling when the bolt closes and maybe the OAL was too long. I'm heading out to OKCGC this week, so I'm going to see what I can come up with. The bullet was just barely stuck, but it doesn't take much to have a major problem.

So David, what happened to your rifle? Seems this match is hard on rifles. lol
Mine ran just fine but I learned a few things, one of which was a very pleasant surprise.
1) Must have different rear aperture. The NM just doesn't cut it for hoser stages.
2) The M1A is actually very pleasant to shoot standing. Recoil was really different and much lighter than when shooting prone or off a bench. Much more than I've noticed compared to all my other rifles. I was wondering about my German DAG NATO surplus ammo being a little lacking in the ummph dept. But then it dawned on me that I had only shot the thing from off the bench. It's a real sweetheart to shoot the hoser stages! Me sees much more range time/matches in the future.
3) Load up the 10 round mag when going prone from off of a platform. On the long range stage I couldn't get my shoulder on the stock properly because the mag was too tall. Mike city.... Should have went sitting with a wrapped a sling. :-[
So I had all sorts of problems that should not have occurred. But that's why we shoot these matches isn't it?
And Tony, you did a great job! We had a slow squad for sure but all of the experienced guys helped out and it really went pretty smooth. Big thanks to Curly, Jesse, Mike C. I'll try to be out there next month to help setup.
