I actually enjoyed the movie.
If you go in armed with the knowledge it does not follow the book at all it's a pretty good movie.
It's almost like they licensed the name of the book but none of the content.
It's more along the lines of Omega Man or the Will Smirks all the way to the bank remake I am Legend than a Romero Zombie movie.
No gore to speak of but to intense for small kids.

I'm gonna have to wait for this to come out on DVD. I just dont see how they are calling it world war Z if it has nothing to do with the book. I am a little disapointed Max Brooks let them use the name in the first place. I guess he sold a lot more books for it, but I doubt the guy was hurting for money in the first place (ala papa Mel). I thought the book was good, some story lines I wish he would have gone a little more in depth on and some he could have just droped. Made for intresting read given his real would approach to a z-day invasion (if that even makes sense). If anyone is into zombies and the such get the book, easy to read and put down and pick right back up with out missing a beat.

I do think the .22 lr has a place in the post apocalypse zeek land and I also agree it would not be the ultimate round... not even close. Your right with the fact that max is a little hung up on the .22 lr. I do like his portrail of the northern migration at the beginning as well as the evolution of societal change in cuba or jamacia or where ever it was. Oh and the battle of yonkers. Did the even attempt to portray yonkers? That could have been epic if done right. I wish the book would have done a better job on changing of the tide, describing the rebuilding of america behind the wall, munitions plants, governing bodies, resource allocation excetra. I would even be interested in a part 2, dealing with the hordes under the water and reintegration of the factions that did not want to rejoin and where doing fine on their own. How where the zombies portrayed in the movie any thing close to the book. Thanks for the input, wife thinks I'm stupid when i try to explain zombies.

Edit: poor vanacular

.22 was a good choice until it became unobtainium. Maybe that's why they wanted it from Pandora in Avatar... to make .22 to fight the zombies at home :)

From a pure romero zombie perspective, all you need to do is scramble/destroy the brain, which any 22 HP round can do. Folks have been using .22 for assassinations for decades if not centuries (little fuzzy on when .22LR was introduced).

However, if video games are any proof of concept (I'm thinking Half-Life zombies here) a shotgun is a far more effective tool in CQB due to the dynamics of the fight. Although, I'd imagine a troop of shottie-wielding zombie hunters would often frag each other a little bit.

/back to the real world
//weird enough as it is

How about a WWZ TV show? Two or three or more episodes per short story. Focusing more on location/cast variation and short story arcs.

IMHO, a .22 would become a better choice if the zombie's bone density reduces with time after turning. However, I believe that the UN-undead are just as much of a problem after Z-day and I would think that there are better choices.

Mike thats what i was going to say.

ya got to use what ya got. im not paying $5 for 50 22 bullets(today at Academy).

In a 'real' theoretical zombie apocalypse (ha!) your best option, IMHO, would be to collect all the diesel you could find and drive a large diesel truck. Joules energy imparted by a bumper at 35mph far, far exceeds any small arms bullet.

Just another "zombie movie"

The book was about zombies.

.The movie wasn't

It was entertaining, though. I didn't appreciate the total lack of ending, however.
Gonna have to disagree with you there.
The book was about people...dealing with the zombie invasion.
The movie was a zombie movie... with Brad Pitt.

I did love the bit when he thought he may have been infected and jumped up on the ledge...counting...waiting to turn and jump/fall
That was cool.

WWZ was an amazing book.

The lack of an ending made me want to smack myself in the forehead...............with a howitzer...
