Why no IDPA?

I shot both, home skillet. I started shooting IDPA and IDPA type things. I don't think it's fun and I think the rules are gay. I'm positive I don't think it's fun and I think the rules are gay. Yes, that's negative, because I don't think it's fun and I think the rules are gay. My malfunction is that IDPA shooters are typically the blowhards you accuse me of being that think they're elite tactical operators with gay ass vests on and spout things like "THAT elephant dung WILL GET YOU KILLED ON THE STREET."

I tried to shoot IDPA for fun. There was a match 20 min 3x a month from my apartment and I just couldn't stomach the hypocrisy in the sport where it's all practical tactical elephant dung but we all shoot G34s and conceal under photography vests. Really? How many IDPA shooters carry a full size double stack gun and conceal under a vest to Walmart on a daily basis? Hell, the local club has a "Shoot What You Carry" special match! THAT SHOULD BE EVERY IDPA MATCH!

USPSA at least doesn't have any illusions about what it is. Is it tactical? Nope. Is it a game? Yep. And nobody would have it any other way. Nobody whose opinion matters, anyway.

Would you like to explain which part of my previous post was not based in fact? Because I'd be amused to hear it. No hard feelings either way, I just hope that you will accept that others' opinions that conflict with your own occasionally are based in fact and have merit.

I considered locking it...but does it really need to be locked? Its just a conversation with the inevitable tangents.
I havent seen anything abusive or threatening, etc. If people want to waste time here, let 'em.

So... you got beat alot.

Look, we have a couple of guys like what you bitching about here. A couple are awesome, shoot multiple disciplines and wax ass every place they go. I see a few 1911's running in CDP that are worth more than my pick up truck..... and every day any of us can read a forum or walk into a gunshop knowing that 99% of the folks in there cant find their way out of a paper sack with the end open.

If you have a problem with people in that club you shot at... thats your problem. Find some folks you like. Personally, you can show up at any venue and find all kinds of folks with more attitude and equipment than skills or ability. When you get older you learn to filter it. After all... even in USPSA there are fat, slow guys who spend a ton of money, never get better and still have fun.

The thread started with some guy wanting to know about a sport you have problems with.... and gets a butt load of snarky horseshit from a gang of guys who are duffers like everybody else.

Sorry you had a bad go of it Austin.... 22,000 folks didnt.

I resemble that remark :D except I'm now shooting a glock and will probably ever get to the point a gun would hold me back :) although who wouldn't want a sweet AI 2011 !
 
Yeah, that's it. I got beat a lot so I chose to start competing in the sport that by far is the more challenging and competitive of the two. Ok.

I think you will find the ratio of "duffers" to competent competitive shooters on this forum is much lower than at nearly every other shooting hangout in the internet. At this point, I find it interesting to ask, "If that is so, is it a coincidence that most of the members of BoomerShooter.com prefer shooting other disciplines to IDPA?"

I don't care about anyone's skill level. I don't. If you're fat and old and slow and never get any better I still think it's great that you're out having a great time with friends and enjoying some burned powder. If having a great time is shooting IDPA, then awesome! I don't care! Do what makes you happy!

But don't get pissed when people share opinions that aren't opinions you have. Especially when those opinions are long considered and based on fact and experience. Especially when people asked for those opinions. And, as I recall, you're not the guy who started this thread.

By the way, if your mind hasn't slammed shut yet, take a look at this and let me know if I'm still a duffer like everyone else on this forum supposedly is. I'm under Tactical, it shouldn't take very long to find my name.

A good athletic operates at a certain level of arrogance. It's ok buddy.... with out ego we loose the will to live.
 
Austin is a serious competitor for the record I remember when he showed up at 3 mils right multigun with a Garand, 1911 & pump shotgun in preparation for a bigger match.
Also when Austin went through TDSA he shot easily over a thousand rds of major PF loads through a 2011 with a very aggressive textured grip.

At the end of the day Austin is good people when he talks I listen & if I have a question I PM or call him.

IDPA threads are like a checker game were we keep moving the same checker back and forth over & over. 90% agree moving the checker back and forth does not violate FTDR wait need a rule check
 
I wonder where I'd place in idpa's revolver division.

I might break out the 4 inch 625 and go see next time im free and pryor has an idpa match

I think that you can go shoot a classifier and find out officially right then and there. One thing is cool and that's their website. You can see who stands where on the classifiers unlike USPSA's HHF which seems to be some kind of top secret voodoo formula.

I have to at least disagree with this. I only recently started shooting IDPA. I'm B class in USPSA Production. On the IDPA classifier I only shot Sharpshooter. While I certainly could have shot better (especially if I used my USPSA gun and not one of my carry guns), I don't think I can make IDPA Master at my current level.

It definitely was the longer shots that killed me.

And in fact there is a USPSA M class Production shooter that did the same classifier with me that made Expert. I definitely think he could make IDPA Master but he didn't that day.

While the IDPA classification system isn't as good (in my opinion) as the USPSA system (mostly due to how people can easily get bumped up at IDPA major matches without actually getting any better), if everyone's ability was rated on the classifier stage, I think most people would realize it's tougher to get to higher classifications in IDPA than they think it is.

It also helps you substantially in the IDPA classifer if you're an accurate "long range" shooter. I am certainly not yet.
 
I guess it depends where your strengths are. :)

I apparently am a hoser. Threw a lot of very bad hits at the 30 yard targets on the classifier. And I was really slow at it too!
