Probably don't need to on a mountain sheep hunting either. Stuff happens.
Right, but in a 3 gun match rifles are often intentionally dumped into barrels rather forcefully, quckly & on the move. Not really the case with a hunting rifle. Just saying a 3gun rifle scope needs to be able to take some abuse.

I've seen guys toss a shotgun so hard nose down that it bounced back out for a stage DQ. My dad raised me to never drop, scratch or even smudge the finish on a gun. I got over that BS after about the 2nd match when all I could think about was going faster.

I pitched my beloved Benelli like a friggin javelin in the last 3 gun match! lol... These guns hold up amazingly well to actual use. The Noveske got tossed more than a few times as well and is just as pretty as ever. lol... JP, if you're worried about breaking the AK you might want to run a better weapon? I'm just sayin'. lol.
I also seem to remember you banging holes in the ground at tri-city with that noveske too.

You are correct sir! We beat the elephant dung out of that rifle and not only did nothing break but the Eotech even held zero... These things are build to be used.
and.... To actually contribute a little to this thread, we shot Micheal's rifle at the gun club tonight and things seemed to be good to go. Ringing steel at 30 yards with ease, still not sure what the problem might have been.

I see that in my previous post I noted hitting steel at 30 yards... I meant 300 yards. Everything seemed to be back in order with the rifle.
I completely understand & I'm not trying to indicate that just anything will do. IMO all equiptment should be rugged enough to handle any oops' & accidents. My point was just that these rifle are abused intentionally. It's like a car bumper, they work fine for the intended application but you might want something a little more purpose oriented if you're entering a demolition derby.

I am use to clicking the Watch Topic feature and following post in my email.
I did not know a post could be moved and named for me, which is fine, I thought I was going to have to restart the Topic. I had no idea all this help was rolling in.
I have read everyone’s email thoughts and suggestions.
There is some great experience here and may need to look at it again in the future.
Okay, so here is the scoop or poop.
Rusty and I pulled a Cool Hand Luke, or a Failure to Communicate.
Neither one of us had the other one’s phone number but we did get together about 6:30 on the East side where the matches usually are.
We went down to the long range bay.
Rusty took my gun, looked a both sides, both ends, used a flash light, pushed pulled and asked a few questions.
Then he sat down at the wobbly table with a high wind load and pointed at the 3 steel targets at 100yds, here is what happened;
Bang-ding, bang-ding, bang-ding.
Then 200 yds.
Bang-ding, bang-ding, bang-ding.
Then 300 yds.
Bang, bang---ding, bang---ding, bang---ding.
He sat up, looked at me and said, show me what you are doing.
I sat down and here is what happened;
Bang-ding, bang-ding, bang-ding.
Then 200 yds.
Bang-ding, bang-ding, bang-ding.
Then 300 yds.
Bang, miss, bang---ding, bang---ding, bang---ding.
Now I am not a big mouth but you could have driven Rusty’s truck thru it at that point.
Before I say this was a case of operator error, the error was not realizing the only thing that changed was the new front rest that was suppose to allow me to really fine tune my groups.
I hope someone chimes in on the front rest business but when I first zeroed the gun I just laid it over my gun bag.
Because of the inconsistent groups I guess I kept putting more and more pressure on the gun at different locations and that may have been creating a harmonic issue?????
I don’t know, but I will be there Sunday with oil and ammo.

You do know I am screwing with ya ? I am glad he figured out what the problem is. Usually when something starts acting up we start skippin limbs on the logic tree when it's time to diagonose the problems.

I take nothing away from anyone that acutually takes their guns out of the safe for more than just to admire & polish them.
Do you have a free floating handguard?
The barrel should never be rested on anything.

Thankfully there was another nice guy at the range that day and he saw early in this event that I had the barrel on the rest. He explained why I should not do that, helped me set it up front and back. From there I still could not group at all.
I have a very short butt stock and could not get a full solid rest on my shoulder many times which may contribute or be all of it.
I only have 30rd mags which kept me from getting any closer to the rest, mags hit foot of Caldwell Fire Control rest.
Next time I mess with this I will turn front rest around so there is more room.

I noticed that your stock looked exceptionally short for a guy of your height. A longer free float tube is never a bad thing either. It helps on the rest and at the match when you stick your support have way out towards the end. When I shoot of my CTK Precision rest I use 20 round mags to avoid the problem you describe with the 30rd mags. A 20 round mag is also handy when you have to shoot through a super low port prone. Don't ask me howI know

I have been going thru the world of stocks with tons of choices.
I thought there was a mid length ace skelton stock but I found out not for AR, just AK.
I also thought I wanted solid but seems I am moving toward adjustable.
I am now realizing my stock, tube & spring are propitatory, as in carbine, I think.
Trying to figure out how to shop a stock and know I will get everything I need in one order.
