who is ready for deer season?

I may go. But id have to ask the landowner I plan on dove hunting with or learn to shoot my bow at targets smaller than barns.

I've not hunted before - ok, once in high school - but my wife and I are both wanting to this year. I've got my license, and my wife took her hunter safety couple weekends ago.

I know pretty much nothing, so I'm hoping to find someone local who can help me get started. I think my wife is more excited about it than I am.

Maybe I'll get out this weekend. I was the only one in my party to get a premium tag, so it's either fly solo or not pack a gun and go with the rest of the group in a different zone. Gotta love these early season hunts.

Danged grasshoppers are eating up one of the food plots. It's 5 acres, and they have cleaned up the outside 40' and working their way in. Looks like replant time when the hoppers croak.

Yeah, Cali. starts their seasons real early. You hunting blacktail?

Yeah, but at least these are Inland Black tail and some muly crosses. I've seen some coastal black tail that were smaller than German Shepherds. Most of the areas that I usually hunt are still under fire closure at this time and I have to work tomorrow. Oh well, win some and loose some. I did manage to get a second tag, so at least I can go hunting with my wife and parents. If you want to see early, look at Archery Season for the South Coast, July and August. Kinda made it hard for me when I was in college, working during season there and at school while the season was on where I worked.

yeah, the deer in Calif. are smaller than most around here. Good luck on your hunt, and make sure to get one in our deer hunting contest if your sucessful.

Check out the first post in the hunting forum for the rules.

Luckily I don't have to buy any high dollar corn this year I got the neighbor to plant some wheat for me! My son is going to collage up at NWUV in Alva Oklahoma and I got some sweet spots up there this year also, there are some really big deer up there. I can't wait to get up in the stand crack open a good book and have a good day in the piece and quite of the outdoors! During rifle season I am going to use my AR 3 Gun set up. I used it last year an it worked great I hit one at 168 yards with some ammo ksmirk (Kirk) loaded up for me, and dropped him in his tracks. I figured why not go with a gun I have been using so much and it don't do as much dammage as the 300 WSM that I usually use. Good luck to everyone and post pics.
