Which shotgun loads for home defense - birdshot?

i just found some new fun.

first i found some #4 2 3/4 buck with 27 pellets 22 cal. at 15 yards i shot one and it would cover a torso arm to arm and neck to belly button. SBS.

then i found the 3 inch #4 with 41 22 cal pellets. i havent tried them yet.

I must say that after reading this thread a couple of times, I have chosen to change up my home defense load. I previously kept birdshot as for fear of over penatration. I also agree that there is under penetration for actual defense rounds. I've since changed to a buckshot load, but I don't think I've decided completely on the pellet count or the load size as of yet.

I say when using a SG for HD, the most important factors are:
1. low recoild loads
2. hi capacity tube
3. A good grip
