Which 45 for Carry

Welp I drank the koolaid..As much as I wanted to carry a 1911. I am just not sure I would remember the safety. I have had my wife wake up screaming from a nightmare and my adrenaline was running so hard I could not even talk. At least now after getting somewhat used to these occurances, I can at least function.

So it came down to Kahr, M&P, and Glock. The glock won for me.

Glock 36 is my 45, its really hard to beat when it comes down to it. Second to that is my G23.

What Glock did you get?

My edc is a G30, and I absolutely love it.

Now that you've made the leap, I would recommend getting some good night sights. Personally, I prefer Ameriglo operators (with a green front site and yellow rears). Oh, and if you're looking for ammo recommendations, I would like to suggest 230gr SB (short barrel )Speer gold dots.

Im gonna go with Troy the muddler, I love the M&P 45, and in my humble opinion, a carry pistol with a safety is asking to pull dead wood on someone...1911s are great, but unless thats all you shoot and all you carry, I think you are asking for trouble putting your life on that. Not saying you cant train to use that weapon system, but in the heat of the moment for which a carry pistol is intended, Id rather not guess whether or not Im trained to do it.

I would go with a commander size 1911

Just try to stay away from the double stacks, para tac4 I had once yeah 14 rds freaking rocks but there as heavy as rocks too. You'll end up walking rooster eyed if your not careful.

No mention of the XDS that springfield unveiled at the shot show? I'm simultaneously curious and scared of it, but... I still want one.

I have a G36, good carry. Also a Sig P245 (no longer made) great .45, great carry. I believe Sig now calls it the P220 compact.

Glocks are hard to beat. That being said, I have two 1911's, a Kimber and a Springfield. Plain stock Springer GI gets the .45 carry nod if I go that route. Both are full size 5" guns and carry fine with the right IWB holster. Have fun with whatever you decide on.

maybe I'm too late here but i'd buy a kimber ultra carry and never look back. i have one that i carry daily and its awesome. its ulta reliable, after 500 rounds through it i've had zero failures to feed (well except for 1 day in particular but thats a story for another day) and lets face it, 1911's are just BADASS! i liken carrying a kimber to being with my wife...if i have to spend all my time with it, it might as well be easy on the eyes and ready to go at any moment! (ok, maybe that last part is just wishful thinking in the wife department)

in any case, thats my two cents...

I have a Kimber pro tactical II that i carried for a long time that is until i got my Kahr CW45 accurate, reliable and the most comfortable daily carry gun i have even carried.

I have a Beretta Cougar .45 and carry in a Crossbreed Supertuck for IWB and for OWB I have a UBG. If you are kind of big :sarcastichand: you won't have any
trouble carrying a .45 with a light jacket on.

Commander size 1911 with a Cross Breed Super Tuck IWB holster. Make sure the backing is horsehide and get the combat cut. Costs a little more, but it pays off in hot weather.

A word about conceal-carry for skinny people:

I don't know where all this "skinny people can't conceal big guns" stuff is coming from. It's easier for us because clothing hangs straight down and we don't have love handles pushing the butt of the gun out.

I can conceal a full-size 1911 in a straight drop OWB holster just by moving up to a size Large t-shirt (not comfortably but I've gotten away with it). l could even do it comfortably with an actual concealment holster.

I see a trend starting to appear

be careful around Burk I think he is a gun hor he will pose with any good looking gun with a curvy trigger.
I am a Glock fan but think they are a bit wide for IWB carry, i had a G36 I like that big hole in the barrel but never was quite sold and went with a kahr CW. The best reason I do not carry a 1911 is I like the longer safe action trigger of glocks or kahr when the gun is chambered.
I agree with Kirt a 1911 does have a soul. Lol
I think you have the 1911 bug and are just on the fence about barrel length.
Decisions decisions good luck have fun

I have an XDM 40 compact(3.8 ), Great gun. very accurate, very reliable, I have had Zero issues with mine.
I don't carry it very often, usually a glock 27 for edc.
No experience with the .45.
