I just moved and lost my access to Cox Cable. I can get AT&T home phone and DSL but I am SOL on TV.

Rather than roll the dice with one of these two on a 2 year contract I figured I'd ask y'all what you use.

Thanks in advance.

Direct is much better than Dish , plus Direct will actually support their product where as Dish is not the best in the world with support when things happen. I have never had a problem getting Direct TV to send people out to the house when there was a problem that would not be resolved over the phone, plus if you end up needing new equipment they send it right out and Direct TV has way more HD channels , thats just my experience. I left Dish for Direct TV several years ago now.

running DishNetwork and MythTV box for 6 yrs now. I have no idea what their support is like, I don't want them at my house.

Forget them both. I've been running without cable or even ota for over 5 years now and haven't looked back. I just hooked up a decent computer to my big screen and get everything online. All of your major networks have thier shows streaming from thier sites or you can go to places like Hulu or Crackle. And for movies you have Netflix, Vudu, Amazon and others or you can hoist the jolly roger and download to your hearts content.

We have been on direct tv for 15 years.
Some of our friends were on direct, and switched to Dish during a promotion. They came back to Direct TV as soon as their contracts ran out.

I don't think I can teach the wife to use the remote much less get all if her TV off the web.

Robusto, what is MythTV?

Dennis, why the switch back to Directv for your friends?

I've had both years ago and hated them both if memory serves me correctly.

Our friends switched back because Direct had more channels, and since we are in a fringe area, the local programming would be OKC vs Tulsa.

The customer service was better with Direct as well. (both suck, but Direct sucks less according to them.)

Jesse you will learn soon enough after getting either one that you wish you still had cable tv. I also can't get cable tv so I went with direct first then switched to dish. I like dish better. During rain storm you can kiss your satellite reception goodbye until it stops or slows down. During snow storm I have to go out with the water hose and spray the snow off the dish just to watch tv.

Had DISH until maybe three years ago. Went to Direct after a price increase and wow what an improvement.
Admittedly we had an old version of DISH, no recording , no nothing but still DISH never offered to upgrade just kept raising rates.
Easy to record and view later, record two at one time, and maybe more now. Seldom have service go down unless heavy rain or snow.
And even I can figure out the remote.

Double and triple check the channel offerings. Right after I switched from Dish to Uverse Dish dropped all of the Fox channels and some of the sports channels. That would have had me immediately pulling the plug on their ass. Other than that they were good by me. DVR worked good, HD was good, and if your dish is installed and pointed correctly it has to be a real bad storm to drop the signal and usually doesn't last but 5 minutes at most.

i am liking directv. we had dish for years. and then when they dropped amc, i said screw it. i gotta have my walking dead.

and i really like being able to record more than 2 shows at a time. and watching them on any tv in the house. dish doesnt/didnt have that capability.

I did about the same as oldglock. Tried to negotiate a better deal with Dish and they acted like a public utility so I changed to Direct. I got the new bells and whistles for less price. But if it is storming I lose service the same as Dish. Then I fall back on the internet or call a friend to ask them to let me know if I have a tornado looming at me. Dish kept calling for quite a while though saying they had a better deal, they should have given me a better deal in the first place, I had been paying them for 7 years.

Direct Jesse go with direct no questions no second guessing go with direct mods go ahead and close

Oh. and if you go with Direct get a friends account number with Direct and tell them they referred you and you and he/she get 10$ a month off your bill.
