What weight spring should I try?

I have a Bul Amory 9mm 1911 which was working fine until I had an optic cut and a Holosun 507 installed. I thought that the screw mounting the optic was reason that the pistol failed to eject because it was hitting the extractor, so I removed the mounting screw over the extractor, but I still had the problem of failure to eject. After loading one round in the magazine and bringing it to battery and firing the round the slide will not lock back using 115 grain 9mm ammo. I'm now thinking because of the added weight of the optic I need a lighter recoil spring. What do you think of this theory? If you agree that it is worth a try what strength of spring in pounds do you recommend that I try? Thanks

So what is a normal spring for a 9mm 1911? You would need a lighter spring for a slide with added weight? This would mean that my current spring is greater than 12 pounds? The spring slows down the slide right? If you didn't have a spring the slide would slam backwards. A lighter poundage of spring would allow the slide to go backwards more quicky? This is all very confusing. Thanks for the help

Great choice of 12 lbs. I have had questions on
1911 Springfield A1 about strengthening the .45 ACP to .45 ACP +P strengths. I found Wilson Combat and they help me answer questions and found the correct recoil springs at 14 to 16.5 pounds for .45 ACP. Best wishes on that 12lb. Spring, the best for 9mm.

My 1911's are 45 cal. I run either a 16# or 17# spring in the 5" ones and 18# in the commanders. My HiPowers it's 17# or 18.5# they are 9mm.

Mr Bob, this is Mr. Bill and it is good to hear from you on the 1911 .45 ACP and your 2011 9MM. I am not to compete with you and it is always fun to see what happens when you have to change out any spring, light or stronge. I have two 1911's, "First" Ruger SR1911, 5" Barrell .45 ACP and a Springfield 1911 A1 5" Barrel, Range Officer, .45 ACP. I purchased a Spring Kit for both and the fun began. From "14 lbs. to 22 lbs." The .45 ACP, .45 Caliber has the the +P 200g, I know as well as you do the incorrect Recoil Springs weight can land a lot of recoil problems. Recoil of a hot case may burn and wake you from a deep sleep. It takes time and play. Thank you.

Hello sir, I do not have a 2011in 9mm or any other caliber lol. You have two great 1911's there! I'm absolutely sure you will enjoy them both. I stick to standard pressure loads in pretty much anything I shoot. I'm rather old fashioned in my likes, and wants lol :) Enjoy the group, I know you'll enjoy it.

Now that seems like a solid and correct list. Some may very a little but it's a good starting point. I like it.
