Depends on the sport, division, etc.

USPSA production? Factory bases.
3-gun or USPSA limited? I'd go Taylor Freelance.

I use the Aluminum 10-8 Lerformance bad plates. I shoot production.. They are durable and small so the mag is easy to index and as a bonus if you have to strip a mag they have finger grooves on three sides of the plate

I have two of these (http://www.arredondoaccessories.com/category.cfm?cid=1001,2015&PID=gg13l5513ivuxy&GID=) on the M&P that I will be putting up in the classified section this weekend. I like them and they seem to work well.

My son and I just went through this with our M&P's and there some things you need to consider. The new magazines do not have the button in the middle of the base pad with that being said you need to look closely at whatever you choose for their replacement. If you are fortunate enough to get your hands on some of the older base pads with the button in the middle then you could get these from Speed Shooter Specialities

Brandon shoots USPSA and I am trying to get there so we both went with the Taylor Freelance 140 mm extensions which allow for more bullets in the magazine with fewer magazine changes through a stage

Once again with the new magazines you have to do some work on the follower for them to accept the maximum number of bullets. I beleive their is a post on Brian Enos regarding this. Hope this helps

Just remember both of these put you in limited. They are not production legal.
