I have only shot to 500 meters as the farthest, and used 55gr just fine. It moves quite a bit in the wind, but otherwise groups well enough.

I use 55gr Hornady FMJBT out to 300. Beyond that, I use 69gr Sierra Match Kings. I have shot mine out to 700 with the 69's.

Honestly, you're gonna want to try a few different weights and loads before you can know what works best in your rifle.

There are a bunch of good .223 powders. You should try for one that meters well.

Out to 300 55g FMJ's. Beyond that SMK's or Hornady 68g BTHP

Been having good luck with the Hornady 75 bthp over 24.0 RL15, good velocity, load to mag length. So far the load has shot well in several rifles. Later,

Kirk

I loaded up some Nosler 69gr recently. They shrank my groups at 200 yards in half, and they were already good groups non-magnified, from 3moa to 1-1/2moa. Tough to see out there with enough detail to get more precise without magnification.

I used Tula at the rifle match in 55gr with the steel case. It did not work out exceptionally well...

Whatever is cheapest in 55 grain I'll use for anything under 100 yards. 100-400 yards I've been using 60 gr vmax on top of a hot charge of 8208 xbr. The barrel on the AR I've used all year can't seem to stabilize anything heavier than 62-68. 68's are iffy. I'm having a new upper built with a longer barrel with a faster twist so I'll use 75 gr Hornady bthp with 8208 xbr also. There's only one club up in my neck of the woods with targets out to 400-500 yards so those 75's will only be used there or for when I need a bit more punch.
