What do you think is faster?

Mike Cyrus made a comment on this very forum that stuck with me a few months back..... something about "it takes as much time to shoot an alpha as a miss"... think about it.

I'd think as a shooter masters the ability to acutally shoot at will (called shots), the decision to land one or two shots would become a strict matter of strategy.

Wormy thanks dude! I just figure if I'm going to do this might as well do the best I can, everyone on here is more than helpful and when I have goofy questions or just think out loud I get real answers from the good folks here. After really thinking about it it seems that if trying to get the least amount of time a double tap on targets would make more sense, like last weekend a 1/2" will get you a FTN if I would have just went ahead and put 2 in the target I'd have saved time over the penalty for the FTN. Later,

Faster splits on the same target is absolutely a skill worth training but it's not where most people waste time, ESPECIALLY when they are just starting out. Matches are won and lost by all the little things that happen when you're NOT pulling the trigger. Transitioning between targets, moving into position, manipulating the gun(s), etc.

If you want to really learn how to drive a pistol, there's no better place than TDSA's AP1.

Also...you are doing great!

Chambers thanks! I've never been a pistol guy for sure, the one pistol I have in the last 4 years had 150 rounds tops thru it but the last 5 weeks that number has gone to dang near 600 rounds so yea taking a class might not be a bad idea. The shooting part I'm not real worried about it's all the other little goodies to knock off time, get my ass back in shape other than round and get this knee all healed up where I have a little faith in it and not have to eat pain pills after a match.

In general I don't think I'm doing all that bad, middle of the road is not my goal but not bad for starting out, I've got some time since the next couple of months I'll be pretty busy and not get to play as much as I'd like so might stash some pennies back to take a class. Later,

set up a stage using only steel, and then fire one shot at every piece as fast as you can with NO make ups, and then decide if you should try it on paper, after count your misses. like JT said, I generally do it only on targets that are close, wide open, and that I can look and verify that the hit was there. Or, when shooting a single stack and it will save me a reload, and movement.

yes, but Cyrwus didn't mention that it takes alot longer to line up that alpha than it does a miss :)

I just took AP1 two weekends ago. I didn't think the shooting part was my problem either until the class. Lance, Mike and the gang fixed my little weaknesses that crept back into my game. Well worth taking the class once a year or maybe every other year no matter how good you are.

My last match was 6th. Difference between 6th an 3rd was less than a second.
