Has anyone ventured out to Cabela's or Bass Pro recently? I was there looking at fishing supplies, treble hooks, etc.. and decided to scan the ammo sections. I couldn't believe my eyes!

Shotgun shells, shotgun shells, shotgun shells... shelf upon shelf of Winchester SuperX 12ga, 20ga, 28ga & 410ga. #7 shot, #9 skeet shot, etc... NO buckshot at all!

Cabela's must have just recently re-stocked the rifle section, as they have .243 .270 .30-06, etc... rifle ammo. The handgun section is all but cleaned out and stripped bare! All I saw at Cabela's were 9 boxes of .38spl semi-wadcutter target rounds. 9mm...GONE. .45 ACP... GONE.

Bass Pro -- same as Cabela's with the shotgun shells. Except at Bass Pro, the whole entire handgun ammo section was totally stripped bare and totally GONE!

I asked a clerk at Cabela's who was nearby and he kind of chuckled and said, "The stuff is gone as soon we get it! People order 'bricks' ahead of time and come pick it up!"

It's getting crazy out there!

Where have you been not to have seen this? Hunting season opening 9-1 here that is a yearly thing the ads usually start 8-15 we have been getting handgun ammo since Jan so no issue there at all.
I assure it will get worse later this year

Was wondering the same thing. Academy Sports ammo section cleaned out, Walmarts in the area are out of ammo except shotgun...& no buckshot.

The best boost in the arm for guns and ammo sales would be the possibility of a socialist/ democrat getting more power.

I read online ( must be true) that firearms sales in the 1st 3 months of 2020 surpassed firearm sales for all of 2019.
.and a large number of these purchasers were first -time gun purchasers. All those new gun owners need ammo
for their new guns.

Couple that with the fact that when the pandemic started, ammunition manufacturers had to shut down..
& were not producing any ammo for what ? .. 2, 3, or 4 months ? maybe longer.
Also read that all lead mined in the USA now comes from mines in Missouri. These mines were closed as well
Other source for lead is in S. America ( Brazil ? ) Article said their mines closed & haven't re-opened yet.
Missouri mines are now open. Those who shoot & buy factory ammo noticed that ammo was starting to get harder to find, going up in price
(as a result of being harder to find) and started buying what ammo they could find, stockpiling for future use.

Add up these factors, high demand, stagnant supply, scarcity of raw materials,..no wonder there's an ammo shortage.
Check online for usual ammo suppliers..you'll find most have NO Pistol caliber ammo in stock..
Well, there may be some premium grade, highest cost, pistol ammo for sale..@ over $1.00+ / rnd.

Some rifle caliber ammo is also scarce..Shotgun slugs, buckshot, & .223 /5.56

Recently read that loading components (primers, certain powders, bullets) are also scarce and / or expensive, if you can find any for sale..

[I didn't realized that the ammunition Mfr. were shut down. I thought they would have been considered essential. Oh well now that starts to make sense. I knew about the 1st time buyers and all but never thought about the lead mines and Mfr's. I am glad I stock pile all the time, since before Obummer started. Thanks for the wake up.

We made a drive a week ago to some rural gun stores to pick up a Ruger Charger and they had ammo, not as pricey as the city stores but in stock, one store was higher! This weekend Saturday a club member is selling his ammo to members probably trying to get rich I guess as he said he will have 40-60000 rounds there 9-40-45 and rifle ammo, he was very tight lipped when asked on pricing but finally said starting at .50 round, maybe they will pay that I do not know, I am going to shoot and window shop not buy anything at those prices. I just do not see a rural club's members paying those prices. Maybe I am the one mistaken we shall see.
