Very hard topic for me

murphy's a cat lady... it can happen, train on how to clear the malfunctions or roll to a secondary...

i don't make mine spotless but I know they like to be wet like a prom date :)

I can't remember if its Black Rain or Mega that makes a kick-ass Billet upper/lower with an ambi bolt-catch built into the lower (not a lever like a B.A.D.) - if you've ever cleared a bad stove-pipe or a double-feed from an AR, you'll appreciate being able to lock the bolt-back with your right hand.

Did you perhaps happen accross these stories on an AK forum?
No sir, they all generate via the U.S. Military and common knowledge! Cycle issues due to heat and erosion from use also exist and are more common.

there are several articles that defend the reliability as well and it is possible that well maintained, they are as reliable as the ak would be. see!

None of mine have ever given me any reason to question their reliability. I'm not dumping Beta mags full auto, so for what I do, they'll run like a top. I keep them oiled, & relatively clean, and they do their part.

My primary concern with the AR in general is the stories I hear of them jamming like crazy for even minor things.

Misinformation. 95% of the problems I've seen (stuck cases, etc.) are due to improper lubrication.

AR's like it WET. When I say wet I mean there should be lube visible all around your ejection port (ha) after a few rounds. A good way to tell if it's lubed enough is the sniff test (ha). Cycle your action four or five times quickly and if it's lubed properly the bolt won't smell at all. If it isn't you'll notice a metallic smell.

There are a few things that can fail when not assembled correctly but the major manufacturers are good to go.

After reading your post, I want to go home & spend some quality time with my rifle.

I feel a bulge in my lower area and I do not have a banana in my pocket. My AK is a dirty whore, wet or dry but all this lube on the AR is getting me all excited. I'm gonna have to play with all of yours before I buy anything!

We are talking about the rifle, aren't we? You may want to look into a good scope or sighting system for that bad boy. One that you could interchange with AK or AR depending on the season.

I'm all iron sights! The scopes I would want to install would be too rich for my blood, and optics are not something I would wanna skimp on!

I've seen an equal number of broken ARs and AKs at matches, and I've seen about 100:1 ARs to AKs ratio. That ought to tell you something.

i used a white oak 18" on my SPR build.. range report hopefully this weekend... gotta zero in that vortex PST

Let me know how you like the PST. I've been thinking of getting one for my 7mmRM build instead of doubling the price and getting another Nightforce.

If you want a cheap rifle that will shoot like crap, and shoot crap ammo without any problems...get an AK. If you want a rifle that will hit what you're aiming at, with MOA results, get an AR-based rifle.

Does everyone blame equipment? At least I now know I have an excuse, and if I compete I should always come in last!

JP...whether you want to accept the facts or not, means nothing to me. The AK-47 isn't known for it's accuracy. It's known for its reliability. But, hey, don't take my word for it. Feel free to ask what members on Sniper's Hide or some of the other gun websites/forums think. Or, for that matter, I'd be more than happy to meet someone for a day at the range so they can compare the accuracy of their AK-47 to my AR. I can tell you before we ever get to the range...there will be no comparison, and it's not because of what I own. It's because the AR-15 or AR-10 is a much more accurate rifle than the AK-47.
