Can any of you guys lend your experience as to the two. I need to get a semi-auto shotgun for 3-gun and I'm on the fence. I'd also take any other shotgun suggestions as long as it is something I can actually find and buy (unlike the Mossberg JM Pro)

Thanks!

Can't go wrong with either one. The Versamax has Benelli internals. If you get a Benelli, AI's work on them is second-to-none. If you get a Versamax, I recommend Carbon Arms for the work.

Awesome advice thanks. What kind of work would you recommend on the Versa Max to improve it. I assume a welded lifter.. what else?

First off, Accurate Iron can work on both guns better than anyone.

Secondly if you can find a shorter barrel Benelli or Versamax right now you will be lucky.

As far as my opinion on both guns. I shoot nothing but Benellis. They are the must reliable gun out there which is the most important thing to me.

Between these responses on this thread I just bought a 22" Versamax tactical. One popped up on gunbroker for a decent price. Not great but I can live with it. He has a few in stock if anyone else is interested

I needed a shotgun, any shotgun to get me through this 3-gun season. I've been doing well with my Rem 870 but the move to semi-auto has been a long time coming. So now that I bit the bullet the question is what suggestions do you guys have on modifications? I'm always a fan of less is more as I've too often seen small changes effect reliability.

Didn't know Accurate Ron starting working on VM's. Last I talked to him, he said he wasn't.....but that's been a while. Thanks for the update
If Mike had his way he wouldn't work on any guns. He'd be a Kept man. Thankfully Accurate Ron keeps Mike working to support his Drug and Hooker addictions.

Lifter welded.

The tactical has 8+1 for the capacity. I thnk I can put what another +2 or +3 on that with a Nordic tube right? 3GN is 9 round max on start isn't it so then I could toss in a few extra shells and go to town.

VM's are nice, I just like my M2 better, gives me that "ahhh" feeling when I pick it up. Benelli's are almost sickenly (sp) ergonomic. Like the curve of a woman's hips as it comes down from the small of their backs. :blum:

I think its almost personal preference; whichever you start with, youll be happy with.

Let me know if you want a quote on some shotgun work, be happy to oblige.

I made the mistake over the weekend when I was at Bass Pro Shops in St. Louis of picking up the M2 Field they had. Boy that thing felt good. Too bad it's twice the price of the Mossburg 930 and three times my budget right now.

Thanks, now I am off to "The Chive" to help visualize this..

I don't have much experience with shotgun shooting, but for what it's worth, the Benelli is the way to go. I have a FN SLP, and prefer that over any. However, I have shot the versa max and I like the SLP wayyy better. That's just my 2 cents.
