I do not employee a gunsmith...

I am however staying "with" Jesse in a Holiday Inn Express in Sparta Illinois in 2 weeks...

I was in the process of installing my Nordic mag release button on my new Versamax build I expect to start shooting for 3gun after the Nordic Sparta match (I'll shoot my Super Nova).

I left the button installed to drill and tap. I had no issues drilling it approx 3/4 of the way through. Tapping went fine except after about 2 threads it started spinning the entire button. I can't keep the torque generated from the tap from spinning the button itself. If i remove it and drill it from behing, will this fix the issue?

Any ideas? If I remove it won't I have the same problem since its spinning on the axis? Has anyone else had this issue before?

I believe you are hosed. Next part you get you need to hold the actual button when drilling and tapping. Benellis can be drilled all the way through. I am 90% sure the versamax is the same way.

New part time.

I attempted holding the button with moderate force but it still wanted to spin. I may be able to get it to drill with a higher speed and less pressure to generate less torque when cutting. However, the tapping may not go the same way.

I'll see what I can whip out. Thanks

We pulled the assembly out of the gun (like the directions said to do). We drilled out the button and used some vice grips to hold the button.

The tap broke off inside the bolt release about 3/4 of the way through it....doh

It looks like we may have to call Remington to get a replacement. The hardened steel tap doesn't want to drill out very easily without a drill press, and even then it might end up having messed up threads once removed.

There wasn't enough sticking above the button to grab onto to undo it. I may have some EZ-OUT sets floating around that may work to get it out. Mechanical fastner removal is a bit easier than a tap...

If you don't run out of ammo you won't go to bolt lock. Problem solved.

True. Im not shooting it in Sparta but one of my employees is. I really hate factory bolt release ergonomics regardless. You wont (or shouldnt) use it as much in 3gun as when shooting trap or sporting clays.

Hahah...ive been impressed by the Versamax thus far except for my gunsmithing attempts.

I wont be shooting the Versamax in other clay sports. I typically shoot a Beretta 391 or Browning XT for those.
