it happens bud. When you only have a limited number of people to help set everything up & it's raining when you have to be setting up, that limited number becomes zero.

Just in case anybody was wondering, these matches don't put themselves together.
If you have the opportunity, volunteer to help....it's appreciated

Absolutely. We set up 7 stages on a beautiful day for the Ponca match yesterday(Friday), with three people and then a front came through with rain in the forecast. When the match designer got to the range this morning, nothing but a little mist, but the rain came about start time. We waited it out for an hour, and shot when the rain quit.
BUT, we have designed our range to be pretty much available to be shot in any weather condition. Some ranges have water issues after a rain, because of drainage problems, lack of gravel, etc.
The match directors have to take that into consideration with safety of the shooters being the #1 consideration.

no bud, it's not even about that.
I just think most people don't understand logistically what goes into making a match happen every month.
I'm just saying, they (MD's) need volunteer help, that's all.
No finger pointing, it was just the perfect opportunity to let people know.
Bad weather the day before can screw things up, even though match day is perfectly dry & sunny.

I not pointing at anyone I am just saying the help is needed and appreciated, but also what I said is true. Some people have no idea how much time and effort is put into any match especially steel challenge that crap is heavy. My little match is nothing compared to OKCGC or USSA or Ponca with there little to no help, but it is a pain when no one helps. We have those few good guys that are always there helping every match.

USSA's match is especially tough because it's an operating business. OKCGC & Ponca are private ranges so they can be closed.
H&H & USSA have scheduled times allowed to set up for the match so it doesn't interfere with business.
If it's raining or whatever, sorry.

Ponca has provisions in the range rules that allow set up the day before a scheduled match to have priority over the ranges. That being said, if a casual shooter comes out during set-up, we visit with them, and ask if they will move to another bay, or just set up a bay past them and hope they get done and leave, then we come back and set up. Never had a problem with that so far.
Our range stays open for our members. That is #1 priority.

Yes, it rained all day in Tulsa, from 7 am till just after 2:30/3:00p.m. and was too wet with standing puddles on every bay. The bays drain very well now but if it's currently raining when we are supposed to be setting up and there is puddles everywhere, it's hard to set it up, and the next day would have been sloppy.

We are having a make-up match though on the 26th as stated in the title so hope for better weather next weekend.

My problem wasn't they they cancelled the match it was that I didn't find out until 10:00 the night before. And I've never not helped tear down a match. I also just want to say I really appreciate all the hard work that all the match directors put into these matches. Tony and Feegee do an amazing job planning stages and keeping things safe and fun.

If there is ever a concern about weather or match status follow us on facebook, as suggested in pm's, and/or contact the match director (me) to get on our email list.

I don't post on here for monthly match status or status updates, only saw this because of the section match that I posted about. Someone always posts match info though, but this is not the official match notice blog/page/info spot.

A match cancellation notice was sent out at 2p.m. local time on Saturday.

Why not? Lots of people don't use Facebook

It's hard to have an open discussion and ask questions via email
Open discussion forums are fine, I just don't post here usually, but if it's important then it should be discussed with the match director. I respond to emails almost immediately, if not, within the hour and the same as social media posts.

Match cancellations or updates etc should only be discussed with the match director so you get accurate information, not just some random garble on the internet.

Feel free to discuss the match cancellation amongst yourselves. It's already rescheduled so whats done is done.

Understood, but an answer to a question that 1 person asks could benefit multiple people in an open discussion. An email is 2 people. This forum is easy to use, easy to search, posts don't get lost after a day, etc. I think just seems like a better venue all around for information distribution.

Your opinion is duly noted.
