Ah, cool! So you just need a pistol for this one? I might pack up the Glock and come give you guys something to laugh about Saturday. :)

From John Bent...

This coming Saturday is IPSC time again at OKC Gun Club. Come on out to play!!

We will be setting stages Friday; if you plan to come out to help, send me an email and I’ll keep you posted on any changes. We will start about 1PM on Friday.

I posted a short news blurb on the website: http://ipsc.okcgunclub.org/news.html …kinda short & sweet this month.

Thanks!!

John

That link isn't working for me for some reason, so it maybe answered there, but how much ammo can one expect to use for this and will reloads be ok for a first timer, or do I need to buy factory of some kind?

200 rounds will usually do it. I can't think of any USPSA club that doesn't allow reloaded ammo and you are certainly welcome to run it at OKCGunclub club matches.

Great, thanks Kurt. I wasn't sure if there were regulations on types of ammo to prevent some kind of cheating I don't know about, so figured I'd better ask before showing up with my ziplock bags of ammo. ;)

No, the steel targets tend to preclude too light of a load. You need to make a 125 power factor minimum for minor and a 165 minimum for major. The only thing that will happen is if your 9mm ammo doesn't knock steel over you wont get any points for it if the steel is calibrated properly.

Power factor equals bullet weight in grains times the velocity divided by one thousand.

OK, cool. I'll have to check with the guy I've been buying it from to see how he makes these things. I always just shoot paper at 20 yards or less, so that sort of thing doesn't usually matter. Thanks again :)

If your loads fail to knockdown the steel, once protocols are followed and it's determined your ammo is at fault, you will receive a 10 point penalty for each one left standing. This is in addition to not getting the points the targets had available.

PF refers to Power Factor. This is determined by multiplying bullet weight by velocity, divided by 1000.

A 9mm with a 125 grain bullet must go 1000 fps to make Minor Power Factor. (PF) If it's only going 950 fps, then you're shooting for fun, as no score will be calculated.

There is no chrono at the monthly matches, so the only consequence for running loads that are too light would be the penalties for failing to knock down the steel.

But don't worry about the details. If your ammo is factory equivalent, you won't have any problems.

Come on out!

I'm not going for points on this anyways ... First run, I'll be using my duty belt, and probably providing a good laugh. hah Gotta work the kinks out before I go pro.
