As some of you know, here have been changes at Heartland Outdoors.

There is a new store manager and he was not aware of the previous agreement I had arranged over 3 years ago with the original store manager.

Long story short, there will probably be some major changes to the match. I don't know what they will or won't be, but they could be significant.

Those of you that have won certificates, what have you utilized them for? IE, did you win one that you put towards an item that you would NOT have bought at HO?

Did you win one you never used?

Have these matches brought your attention to HO and have subsequently spent money there as opposed to spending it at a competitor?

Has this match prompted you to bring other people?

Would you shoot these matches if:

1) no certificates were offered or fewer were awarded?

2) match fee was increased to $25?

3) match fee was $15, but no certificates and shorter, quicker stages?

What is the biggest draw of this match?

1) shooting challenges

2) camaraderie

3) $50 certificates

4) other

I'd like to know so if I have a chance to negotiate, I'll know what's most important to our shooters.

Has this match prompted you to bring other people? I know myself and other new shooters shot their first matches at Heartland and I recommend it as a great place to go for 1st timers.

1) no certificates were offered or fewer were awarded? Yes

2) match fee was increased to $25? probably not, or at least not regularly

3) match fee was $15, but no certificates and shorter, quicker stages? yes

What is the biggest draw of this match?

1) shooting challenges yes, always fun

2) camaraderie yes, meeting like minded folks

3) $50 certificates yes, because anyone can win!

4) other the dates and time of the match work very well for me

Has this match prompted you to bring other people? Yes, I usually bring atleast 3 people from Stillwater to this match every time.

1) no certificates were offered or fewer were awarded? Yes the experience and friendship is great.

2) match fee was increased to $25? Honestly maybe not, being a college kid $25 for a local match is a little much for me.

3) match fee was $15, but no certificates and shorter, quicker stages? Yes most likely.

What is the biggest draw of this match?

1) shooting challenges They are great.

2) camaraderie Yes!

3) $50 certificates They are nice not really a make or break for me and my friends.

4) other It is a blast and I will be bringing a lot more people out to this match when our competitive shooting club at OSU gets started.

Every time I go to a match it seems like I'm buying something, primers, reloading supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.
And they wouldn't have that business otherwise since I live in Oklahoma City and would probably pick it up locally or order it online.

I am probably going to spend another fifty dollars as well as use my certificate at the next match buying 12 gauge shotgun loads for other competitions. That is the plan atleast. What kind of problems is the new owner giving you?

He's the new store manager, not owner and he's a great guy. But he's not sure if he likes the agreement that's been in place for over 3 years.

There may be NO changes whatsoever.

Or any changes would make the match even better!

What I'm wanting to find out is if HO is making more money from the matches than is his initial perception. IE, the new customers being brought in by the match and the certificates prompting more than their face value being spent at HO

David I know that I bought stuff over and above the certificates that I've been drawn for. I think I've took two of them home and I know that I at least doubled the value of each. So $100 over and above? I've also bought stuff in there knowing I could probably get it cheaper on the net, but I like to support our brick and mortar stores. I appreciate them letting us shoot the matches and having a place to browse good stuff so I do purchase from them. I'm planning on buying a Wilson 1911 when the economy starts improving so feel free to throw this info their way.

I have also bought a red dot site for my SW M&P 15/22, several magazines for one of my XDM's, bullets, ammunition, Pocket Knife, without a gift certificate. Those are the things I can remember.

Option #3 for $15/shorter stages would be to get done sooner, therefore turning lights, AC and ventilation off sooner thereby saving money.

The problem _I_ see with that is, if the stages aren't exciting or challenging enough, few people will care to shoot it, even at $15

Fewer shooters, fewer customers, fewer sales....so that "money saving measure" would really cost them money.

I've won twice. The first time, I used the 50 toward a $100 dollar purchase that I would have otherwise bought online.

The other I won recently and haven't used you, but I will soon. I would have used them already if they were looking to sell ammo.

I would not even have known HO existed if not for this match and information about it on boomershooter.com. I have shot there, shopped there, and sent people there because of this.

ALL matches make a profit. If they don't, they wither up and go away. I can name a few that did just that.

This is the only match that:

Gives discounts to LE, Military and Juniors

Compensates the Squad leaders

Allows Second Shoots, rifles, lasers, etc.

Had a full-auto MP5 as a pickup gun

Has had various trophy matches and prize tables.

Gives away multiple $50 gift certificates each and every match.

And several more things, but that's a good start.

David. I completely understand capitalism and I applaud you for your efforts and business sense. I believe the predicament is that the new manager at HO has figured out they are doing all of the giving and you are doing the majority of the taking.
