Anyone know where I can find some coated .223 bullets? I'm looking for 55gn, but anything close should work. I'd prefer to avoid the expense of the jacketed bullets if possible. Thanks.

Those may be hard to find. Just no demand and I doubt you would be happy with the results. The velocity that would work with those bullets will be way below anything you will find in a reloading manual. Too fast and you might spend a lot of time cleaning the coating out the gas port in your barrel. Also accuracy may suffer.

Here is a thread from several years ago some folks tried coated bullets.

Here is a thread from a fellow that cast his own bullets. In his case it seemed to work.

An alternative cost wise would be these. $89 per thousand with free shipping.

Update: You got me curious so I started looking. There is at least one vendor that sells .223 lead (not coated) bullets. He sells them by the pound. Price for the 55 gr bullet is $25 per pound. At approximately 110 bullets per pound (someone check my math) then these wil be over $200 per thousand.

The Everglades bullets are pretty good for the money. You probably wouldn't win any long range, precision rifle matches with them, but for plinking or a local match they work just fine.
