Its that time of year.
We put in a small underground shelter for us a couple of years ago that has morphed into a wine cellar, but still has room for us and the dogs.

We had to register it with the county emergency service, so they could come check on us, as we live in the sticks.

What do you folks have?

just a centrally located bathroom. in a perfect world, we would have a cellar; but, current financial situation does not allow that. either we ride it out in the bathroom or hop in the car and outrun it.

Right now we have a 6'x8' fraidy hole and next year when I build my house I will have a 12'x12' safe room/gun safe.

The community I am a maintenance man in (mobile home park) is owned by a man, and his family, who actualy cared about his residents. He spent over 200k to build 2 above ground storm shelters in accordance with the FEMA regs, and built following the standards Texas A&M (or tech, don't remember which)set with all the wind and debris testing they do. They are 20x40 above ground pillboxes. Between the 2 of them, and a basement at our club house, we can get everyone in the park out of their house, and into a shelter. These have been in place for about seven years now, and they are very nice, I have spent many hours in them. They are hooked up to cable, and have backup power. Very nice indeed.

May 3rd 99 we went to the local school since they had a huge basement, but we were turned away by a guy smoking a cigarette( in the basement) because we had our two dogs with us and folks could be allergic. WTMC! And I smoked! The Baptist Church let us in till the nado passed and we decided to get a shelter. We had one put in the floor of the garage. That was ok in a pinch, supposed to hold 8 people but really was way too small. I kept the beer I brewed in there and if the neighbors came over I had to put my babies out. Made me wanna cry!

We move since and had Biggs Backhoe, from Piedmont I think, put in a 6x8 fradie hole. $2500 total and peace of mind. I even put one of those 4 foot joboxes in it with all our stash in case the house goes and we end up on tv with Joleene Chainey and I'm in my underdog t-shirt and 80's Don Johnson shorts. Hey I need a hat so I better put in for the Boomershooter drawing! See ya.

Dennis it sounds like with all that wine you could survive trapped in it for a while and not care :)
