Took my wife shooting

I think both ideas are a win.
As far as Troy's idea...it doesn't have to be a comp. It can even be done without a timer. I like the idea of them going thru a stage of each kind of comp. This will give them an idea of why we go so much. My wife has no clue that the matches are different. She just says "didn't you just go shooting yesterday". I tell her that was a pistol match & this is steel challenge (or whatever). She pretty much just rolls her eyes & says "whatever". My favorite is "why do you need to take so many guns"...lol. Now that I think about it, I don't know if a 3gun stage would be good. I don't think my wife would like shooting the shotgun...I'm pretty sure of it. Maybe do 3guns with 22's & a 410 or something?

I love Troy's idea but I think it is just for certain spouses or maybe the "next level" after getting them used to being around a .22 in a relaxed environment.

I think the "everyone should shoot comps" mentality (I am guilty as well) is what we need to break free from. Some people (spouses) might just want to plink and that is fine.

If I try to push my wife into doing something I like, she won't like it. She has to do it at her own pace or discover it on her own.

I told my wife about this and she said "a competition? really? Most of the time when I go shooting with you, I don't try to aim, I just like the bang of the gun"

So given that. It might be better to just have a get together where everyone brings some different guns to shoot for fun and maybe give everyone a chance to shoot whatever gun someone else has to try them all out.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as you bring ammo for it, you can shoot whatever I have on the table.
