Took my wife shooting

Signifigant Others and Life Partners are welcome too. Isn't that right, Coordinator BC?

A shoot like that may get my wife to come out. She's a bit intimidated but if the other folks "others" are there she may go. I think she shoots well. We try to shoot a couple times a month. I'm trying to get her to go to the .22 shoot the end of the month.

My girlfriend and I went out shooting for the 4th of July.

It was her first time shooting. So we went over the basics, with the .22 lr rifle and pistol. After she was shooting a group about the size of a penny at about 40 yards with the long gun, we played with steel.

I may have created a monster. The steel was about 7 yards away, after a couple strings of fire, she was double tapping and didn't miss, ever. She got really fast and was able to keep the shots about an 1" or closer together.

I may have a new steel challenge friend.

Is that an ATI/GSG .22 pistol? I've thought about getting one of those. It'd be much cheaper than a conversion for my pistol. How's the reliability? What ammo works best?

Why is she manually cocking the hammer?

So I'm thinking in October we should have a Wives Shoot at OKCGC. Kinda like they do out there with the Women On Target thing.
Could be a lot of fun.

I nominate Burk to coordinate.

"BoomerShooter Significant Other (BSSO).22 Fun Shoot" ?

Well I got it back in May for my birthday. About 3 weeks ago was the first time I was able to shoot it. I ran about 200 rounds of federal value pack through it and didn't have a single issue. Took it home, disassembled it. Took the magazine safety out of it and lightened the grip safety.

Fired about 50 rounds through it without and problems on saturday before the USPSA match at OKCGC.

I forgot my ammo can full of .22 lr at my parents. So I grabbed another federal value pack from walmart.

For some reason we started getting light strikes. We would re-rooster the hammer and bingo. I'm going to take it a part and clean it see if that fixes anything.

I'm also having an issue where the bushing upfront turns to the side and guide rod is getting some funky wear.

Sorry, forgot to answer you first question. Yes it is an ATI/GSG .22

Yes! Great idea Burk. Thanks for doing this!

Don't patronize me............

What about this? There is a regularly scheduled Fun Match at OKCGC - October 9. Why don't we just use that as the BSSO match. It is VERY laid back and non-competitive. That would allow anyone to come even if they aren't gun club members (I can only bring one guest at a time).

It only costs three (3) dollars and there is no pre-registration so it would be simple and easy for first timers and spouses. Pistols or rifles are permitted

What say ye?

Actually what I envisioned was a little more complex. The way I see it, the more they know ("understand") about what we do, the more supportive they might be. Can't hurt any, right?

And these are all examples: Split wives into a couple of groups depending on number involved.
General Safety Briefing where Everyone attends: taught by TroyF
Little USPSA Stage: Taught by Anderson
Little 3 Gun Stage: Taught by JT
Little Heartland-style stage: Taught by Burk

4 hours tops. And then we go eat somewhere.

I just threw those names up there, to give you an idea. Each gal gets a turn shooting each event. We could have as many events as we wanted to. Could be cool, informative, and fun for us.

Yes, that is more complex (still a good idea, but complex)

What I know about MY wife and I assume it applies to others as well, is that she is not going to come to an "Organized Shooting Event" like we go to or anything similar. I don't agree with her reasoning but that is the way it is.

The .22 match is easy and non-competitive, you don't even have to keep score if you don't want to. It is not timed so there is no pressure involved.

Does anyone else's spouse fit into this 'category"?

My line of thought was more towards "Here's what I do honey, and this is why I devote time to it". If I'm reading you 5x5 (ATAS talk) you're more lone the lines of actually getting them hooked. I think we could a happy median. And we can nake it super laid back, yet still informative. More informative than competitive. I'd think the comp would turn some off. Just my thoughts. The fun shoot is a great idea too.

I think both ideas are a win.
As far as Troy's idea...it doesn't have to be a comp. It can even be done without a timer. I like the idea of them going thru a stage of each kind of comp. This will give them an idea of why we go so much. My wife has no clue that the matches are different. She just says "didn't you just go shooting yesterday". I tell her that was a pistol match & this is steel challenge (or whatever). She pretty much just rolls her eyes & says "whatever". My favorite is "why do you need to take so many guns"...lol. Now that I think about it, I don't know if a 3gun stage would be good. I don't think my wife would like shooting the shotgun...I'm pretty sure of it. Maybe do 3guns with 22's & a 410 or something?
