You may try to talk me out of a red dot but these old ass eyes like em !!

That being said I'm all ears on other options but that's not my question. I am a old dog...Sort of but can learn new tricks...LOL

I will be getting a Predator Tactical 2011 that was made by Matt Burkett's place. Getting it from a good friend that has no time to use it. 3 Gun is my game...I'm new to it and am in love with it, as is my Wife. I have a XDM 5.25 and have the dot mounted on the slide. I love it and am finally getting the hang of finding the dot pretty fast. My first 3 gun match was this last weekend and i did pretty well, came in 8th out of about 45 guys 4th overall...Anywho I digress

The Wife gave the OK on the 2011 but I just can't see that sight. I know I could have slide milled and then mount the RMR but that just kills me to have that slide milled. Shooting 3 gun, is there any other option to mount that dot? I know I could have a side mounted to the frame etc but not sure I can use that for 3 gun. I can't see how I would be able to holster the 2011. Oh yea, it's 9mm

Help me out guys.

BTW, I will entertain all advice on ways around the dot. I have to wear glasses to read and I cant see the sights without them, bad thing is I cant see the targets with any detail.

Here's a pic of what it looks like almost to the tee

You'll be better off getting a purpose-built open gun with a comp than getting a limited gun and adding a dot, since you'll be competing against guys with comps and 170mm mags anyway. I think most open guys use something like a Ghost holster and then have to keep it locked until they draw for 3 gun.

This may end up a true open gun....But not this year :)

A lot of guys use the Arredondo mount on their 3 gun open pistol. I'm going to have one built sometime soon hopefully. :). Thecwayvto get the dot the lowest is the milled upper with the dot melted into the slide. Obviously the downside is the dot gets beat up moving on the slide and its moving almost all the time. This mounting alliws you tobuse a traditional kydex holster.

The next lowest mounting option is the Arredondo mount if I'm but mistaken. I'm no open gun expert. You might be able to have someone make a custom mused holster to fit that mount setup. I've heard of guys doing just that.

Lastly you go with a big c more and run a race holster with your as puckered hoping the gun doesn't hit the dirt.

have you been drinking?

Like Austin said if your going open get a purpose built open gun setup for 9 minor loads with the appropriate comp.

I don't think I'd modify a perfectly good limited gun to make it a half hearted open gun.

I saw a Predator Tactical frame-mount for a C-More in the clearance section on Dawson's website. $17.

I agree a full open top on your frame could work. Please Note that Only stoped shooting open after 18 years to shoot 3 gun. and I only found Tac Optics interesting so for the past 3 years I have been trying to remember how to shoot Iron sights.
Over the years I have broken a minimum of six optic on an open gun. and none of them were slide mounted.
If you went with a custome slide and barrel for your frame you could keep your origional Iron sight gun and have one of the new generation of slide mounted optics on you slide. I am sponsored by Vortex , But I don't have to pormote any thing I don't belive in. The new Vortex Razor has lots of protential with it lifetime warantie
