Thunderbird Run 'n Gun, July 13, 2013 - do you have what it takes?

The guys with Garands would most likely clean it up, but there will be plenty of other guys out there with bolt guns. There will be K98s, some Enfields, etc.

A 91/30 would probably do you alright if your rifle shoots well, you have decent (consistent) ammo, and have your reloads down beforehand. You'll be shooting minute-of-man on the long stages, so your gun only really needs to be, at worst, a 5-minute gun. My admittedly limited experience with Mosins tells me that most of them should fall within that category (or do I need to broaden my education base?). An M44 would be a little more wieldy (though, I confess to being unfamiliar with their inherent accuracy in general) but millions of Russians dragged the longer guns through all sorts of ungodly nastiness. I'm just the sort of masochist that would do that to myself just to see how I stacked up against the other guys.

Just some thoughts.

It was an excellent match and a lot of fun. Pretty much impossible to run the whole thing though since it was in the thorns and briars and your clothing would have been torn to shreds. Also, you had to stop and find the next survey flag so you knew which way to go next and lots of them were hard to see. Lots of people got lost and took the wrong trail. I did enjoy it and now wear my t-shirt from the run with pride. I started the run at 12:07 so it was hot and I thought we were going to run down mowed trails so I was in running shorts and t-shirt and my arms and legs were bleeding by the time I finished. I will certainly do it again though if at all possible.

You were shredded up pretty good when you got to Stage 2. You were the first real bleeder I saw but you weren't the last. Those green briars were nasty, to be sure.

That would have come in real handy Jesse. If you have one I could borrow, I'll take it next time.

Lonnie is being modest jesse he was like that old song they call him the Streak when they said go he was gone like a flash I thought I was moving at a quick pace until I saw Lonnie's shooting & running times he beat me like a rented mule lol. Great job Lonnie your run time definitely reflects what a person can do if one pays attention and doesn't take 1/2 mile detours. You definitely impressed me.
