Thoughts on open carry stop

As much as these people seem to irk many of you.... This Countries people have won a few battles by civil disobedience.

I was working in Michigan most of the 90's. At the time it was a " May issue" state ( and most county sherriffs would not)
For years the assumption of everybody was open carry was illegal. In actuality - the law tendered no opinion about it.

So- after Florida started shall issue in 87 and the other states began to follow... Michigan residents began to exploit the non law - often enough the collective heads of law enforcement that their AG ruled that he would not recommend prosecution of a non- law.

Over the next couple of years.... The people who had been pushing the envelope lobbied and got shall issues permits.... And a couple of years later got the " safety inspection " (ie pistol registry) voided

If your living in a place with "good gun laws" you really need to understand why people stand up in places that have bad ones.

You make a good point. Every state is different on their laws and what works in one state may not in another. I think we are pretty lucky in Oklahoma right now. I am in favor of Constitutional Carry but our Open Carry law works pretty well in the fact that I can open carry my handgun just about anywhere and i never get harrassed as even the people who disagree with me doing it know I am perfectly legal in what I am doing and don't try calling the police on me. One thing that works in my favor is I always try to act friendly and approachable with everyone around me and don't try walking around like some cocky gunslinger.

Cop did a great job of dealing with 3 dudes about whom I am not sure how I feel. I think to some degree they give gun owners a bad reputation but I also think that on the other hand they are behaving in a legal manner and have a right to do what they did. I can see the same contact going bad rather quickly as well. Doing their video at the wrong time ie nearby an actual crime going down or with much less restrained officers could make for a very bad day. Right or wrong and I can only guess, but a call of man with a rifle walking down the street in areas of CT or CO would get a much different response based on their first hand experiences.

It's telling they were in a section of the city that needing a firearm was unlikely. Personally, I think they were idiots. If I need to transport a long gun from point A to point B in public view, I would have it cased. If I needed it for protection, or a percieved threat, it certainly wouldn't be slung on my back. Pretty sure if they tried this stunt in some areas of the country, someone else would have their camera and guns, and they would be a blurb on the local nightly news. Rights come with responsibilities, and they failed on the second, IMO.

If I need to transport a long gun from point A to point B in public view, I would have it cased. If I needed it for protection, or a percieved threat, it certainly wouldn't be slung on my back. I think this is well said and what I have been unable to put into words. It isn't that it isn't their right to do it, it just seemed like an abuse of the right. Almost like picking a fight and hoping someone would object. That attitude will never convince the other side that guns can be safe and productive parts of our lives. I think some gun owners antagonize those that are anti-gun hoping to pick a fight so they can win it.

99% of OC don't have a camera with them.

They just go about their business, and don't worry about it.

On the other hand, there are those that OC to garner a confrontation they can put on YouTube for some self gratification or wannabe notoriety.

I'm pretty sure those on this forum are the ones not heard of.

I definitely agree with you my fellow hottie! I don't think anyone here tries to draw attention to their gun or their right to carry. I'm just always perplexed by those that do!
Everyone here gains their notoriety wearing a cool jersey ;-)

The way I see it. If I am so concerned about safety that I need to carry an AR down the street I have bigger things to worry about that be being talked to by the cops and need to un-ass that AO with a quickness.

Thes two guys are douchebags and thwy are lucky they got a tolerant cop and not an ass whippin.
