thinking of getting a ruger mini 14

JR thoes aren't bad. They all fit into a man sized target, and probably will at a longer distance too.

I've thought about a mini 14 or 30 myself but still lean towards the AR in 5.56 or 7.62. I like my son's Cetme. It is accurate and doesn't punish you. It actually has a very mild recoil. It is rough on brass so buy surplus if you can. His old roomate/shipmate has a FAL that is fun to shoot as well. He is hell on golf balls at 100yds with iron sights. It boils down to buying what tickles your fancy and you can justify to your children when they ask what happened to the inheritance.

I have an early Mini14 in a factory folding stock. It sat in the safe for years. I recently decided to take it out. It shoots as good or better than my best sks. My m1A shoots much better than the Mini 14. At 200yards I can keep 10 rds on a paper plate, supported/bench iron sights. I am not that good a shot  It likes factory mags. That was a problem some years ago but not an issue now that they are available. I will keep mine primarly due to the factory folding stock and concealablity. As an "all purpose rifle", I think they are fine. The price of the new ones are a bit scary to me. There are other options in the price range. If you can find a used one, at a reasonable price, it would be a good addition to any collection.
