Thinking about 3 gun

well if it is your first AR and you have not shot 3G as of yet I would suggest to shoot a few matches and see what others are running / doing with their ARs. No need to go off in a direction you might deviate from in short order.

If you are gathering gear for the shotgun this is a pretty sweet deal.

TRick, if you had a Glock I could help you out but I'm not familiar with the xD's.

Then why post? We don't need to be told that you can't answer the questions. We will know that you can't if you simply don't post. It keeps my inbox less full of email responses, the thread stays cleaner, and quite bluntly it's pretty annoying.

I purchased the model 1. It's my first AR and there are some things I feel necessary to change on it.

Yeah the old plastic mil spec hand guards are weak sauce. U should put a nice 15" Samson or Loki hand guard on it. 15" handguards on 16" barrels are the new quad rail.

I'd look at the Nordic XL as well, They're aluminum & are drilled & tapped to add rail sections where you want them. They're a really nice handguard & are considerably less expensive.
