Hello all. I understand that this is going to be a biased topic but I would greatly appreciate everyone's thoughts. I'm thinking about taking up 3 gun but need some suggestions on what rifle and shotgun. I am looking for something fairly accurate out of the box and budget friendly.

I've been looking at Loki and Stag for the rifle but I don't have enough information to make a decision.

As far as the shotgun goes... I have no idea.

Thank you in advance and I look forward to shooting a 3 gun in the near future.

Loki or Stag would be great rifles.
As for shotgun, you can't beat the Benelli M1/M2, but they might not be very budget friendly. Kirk Smith has had great luck with his CZ which you can get at a considerable cost saving over the Benelli models. His is modded, but so are most of the shotguns you'll see at a 3gun match.

Save your money, buy factory ammo, come shoot with others stuff, then realize IF you like the game and want to continue, AND what equipment would work for you. A lot of shooters don't mind loaning their stuff. If and when I actually come out to a 3 gun match again, you're welcome to use mine. Maybe on 2-25 at Arcadia. It's my birthday and I should get extra points for that.

Well... I think it's been answered.
Either rifle is a damn good choice, and Benelli M1 or M2 can't be beat.

I too have been contemplating this very thing, so I will tell you where I am leaning, I have a great side arm already and so I am going to do a lo budget build on the AR in 300 blackout I expect to spend less than 800 on that and for the shotgun i am going to trick out my Rem 1100 it will be all tactical except for the duck engraved receiver. I hope that wont be more than 200 for the extras for it I paid 250 for the 1100 and that is my plan.

Thank you everyone for your input. I was curious as to the barrel length on the shotgun and that has been answered. I know that I'm going to heart some 3 gun so I'll be attending soon.

I know I might get flamed for this BUT you don't HAVE to have a Benelli for 3-gun! yes they are great shotguns and most work wonderfully. My little CZ is something that I fell into some serious luck as our Mr. Miller took me under his wing and between Kurt, Mike, and me beating our heads together I have a shotgun with less than $600 that has over 1K rounds without a hick-up ok those 5 Fiocci slugs don't count LOL The mods can be done by anyone and I hear there are going to be some lighter springs here pretty soon :67: so that taks out the dremel fun :03: BUT any mods to a CZ shotgun must envolve beer hehe

Your more than welcome to take my CZ around the block! I happen to know about some interesting things that might be happening with CZ in the near future but I can't say anything just yet.

Dude just bring some ammo and come give it a try! if you want to watch that's fine but more than likely we would have you try at least one stage but let me tell you it's a blast! a daily crack habit would be cheaper LOL try some rifles, shotguns, pistols before you dump a load of cash into firearms so you know what you'll like cause what you think is right will more than likely be changed around. Later,

Kirk

Im the FN guy...Im running an SLP with some work done, also not budget friendly...but it is aWesome...

and as far as a rifle goes...those are great choices...but just like kirk said, you dont HAVE to buy the latest and greatest, kurt miller runs an iron sighted bushmaster and hes won more championships with it than with anything else (his words not mine)...it has some mods but nothing huge

Bring yourself to a 3 gun match. Grab what u have. Make arrangements with people to borrow whatever u need. I have shot ten or so matches not one time have I shot three guns that I own and I don't have all the gear. People have let me borrow anything that I have needed to compete. If u r thinking about shooting cOme shoot. DO NOT and I reappear DO NOT watch a 3gun match. I have only watched one and it was the most painful because I didn't shoot it. Do not worry everyone will help u through the match. Just come out and shoot!!!!

You guys are awesome! Very welcoming and kind. I've settled on Loki for the rifle. I'll be unavailable to shoot until March, which will allow enough time for the rifle to arrive. I'd be very appreciative to borrow a shotgun that will help make a decision. Honestly I've been leaning towards the CZ but lack knowledge as I only bought my first gun in December but know own 3. Looking for number 4 and 5.

Just show up and bring some shells. You'll get to try Benellis, FNs and probably others. Then you won't be flying blind when you buy. We are an accommodating bunch, just had a Loki AR offered for me to use at the upcoming match a few minutes ago. :D

I started last year, and I borrowed a pump shotgun, took my singlle stack 1911 pistol and my AR and went to a match on my own.....my buddies chickened out!! It was an awesome experience everyone was helpful, made sure I knew how to shoot each stage... I love 3 gun and now I don't get to shoot enough.

Shoot several matches, learn what is important, what is not and soon you will figure out what you need and want. Many of the guys I shoot with started out with a Remington 1100 with a ext. tube, glock and a basic AR and had a blast. I am just now upgrading my 3 gun arsenal.. mainly cause I want to not because I have too... I am shooting an FN SLP now, mainly cause I got a good deal on it, and it definitly rocks but I was shooting good with my borrowed gun as well. I am still trying to get better each match...Good luck and go 3 gun you will love it...

300 blackout? That will be a cheap AR but you won't be able to afford to shoot it.

By the match match I will have a custom Loki and a custom stag of you want to shoot them. I also have 3-5 benellis you can try. Just give us a shout.

I ended up purchasing a Stag Arms two days ago. Looking for a different hand guard for it though as the one it came equipped with isn't too great. Now on to the shotgun.

On another note, anyone know of a gunsmith that isn't backed up for 4 or more weeks? I need a few things changed out on my XDM, no custom work, just springs and a few other things.

TRick, if you had a Glock I could help you out but I'm not familiar with the xD's.
